I have both a 1996 GSX and a 1999 GSX Limited. I'd like to move the working LCD multifunction display from the 1996 GSX to the 1999 GSX Limited (with a current broken LCD display).

I don't know much about this stuff, but the two displays look very similar so I assume the 96' will work on the 99'. I've attached pics of both. Will the 96' work on the 99'?

If so, how do I remove the display from the 96'? The hood cover on the 99' looks pretty straight forward to remove as it has a few screws. The 96's however, doesn't have any screws showing so I'm not exactly sure how to remove the display on the 96'. I've attached a pic of the underside if the 96' hood cover. Any tips to remove the 96' display would be very much appreciated.

Thanks in advance for any help!

Probably not, there are just too many differences, different engines, different MPEM's, on a 96GSX most of the gauge functions are direct connections to the sensors. On 97 and later most functions run through the MPEM. You would be much better off just to buy a good used one, PM minnetonka4me or 99spxxx.

To remove the gauge just use a blunt screwdriver and pry between the rubber insert and the gauge, it will pop right out. I use these so it won't scratch the gauge. Or you could put some tape on the screw driver.

The connectors that connect to the ebox are completely different; you would have to cut and splice every wire.

I dont currently have a 99...my bro might.

If the screen us just sun damaged just repair it. That's what I did on my 96 gsx. Cost $25 and fixed but make sure you seal the lens with something water proof I didnt use enough and now it gets water in it sometimes.
