Ok i am new to owning a pwc. I bought a 2002 seadoo gtx four tec and this weekend somehow broke off the right vane. Can someone explain what these are for? I had noticed that my ski had gotten slower and realized that they were stuck in the out position. When ridi g with one broke off it pulls hard to the left. What will happen if i remove the non broken 1 untill i get the right one fixed. Again i am new to this and any input is greatly appreciated.

Hi and welcome to the Seadoo forum.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm pretty sure the 2002GTX were all 2-strokes, either DI or RFI models. Anyway a broken vane in the pump is usually no big deal, however if it is effecting handling I suspect there is sufficient damage to the pump, I would pull the steering nozzle and have a good look, if you have a vane missing and maybe one or two other cracked you may need to replace the pump housing.

My title says 2002 but was told its a 2003. The vanes are the tabs for stearing located on right and left rear of the pwc to help with stearing i think

I'm not sure but you could be talking about some vanes that were added to later model SeaDoos to provide directional control when the pump is not providing any thrust. If that is the case you would be better off removing the one that isn't broken so it doesn't pull you to one side.

2002 came in both a 4 stroke and a DI version. Exact same body.

I think he may be talking about the OPAS system?

Must be .. I don't think a sponson or jet vane has an "out position" to get stuck in.

Sorry yes its the opas system. I need to get a new set up. The original broke off as well as the end of the shaft that controls them. Any recommendations for a replacement?

I had same issue. 1 tab got broken when at the dock. I bought a block off kit and bypassed the opas system. Makes the 3 seater turn like a 2 seater. Only issue is the off power stearing is gone which means you have to be more careful when trying to dock or if you release throttle there is no stearing. Stearing will only work while throttle is engaged. Took about an hour to get used to it but now i love it. Feels faster with no drag and turns faster now.

Either purchase block offs, or buy a used set from someone that took their set off.

Mine have been removed. And yes, it turns like crap around the dock. But I am used to it now.

I have a used opas system from a 2002 I'd sell. PM me.

2002 was the first year for 4tec 155, 2003 added 185 SC, 2004 added 215 scic.

Get rid of the O.P.A.S! Much more fun without them, and those parts are way too expensive!
