Okay im new to the forums so be easy on me if i ask a question thats already been asked. I bought a jet ski yesterday and all i got was a bill of sale and it said 1994 but after looking at the hin, which is zzno1948j990, from what i can tell its a 1990 model 5803 sea doo sp. So now i am trying to verify the motor in it. Its should be a 587 and it should be a 1990 but i dont know for sure. It is yellow and the ein is 3871982. I would appreciate it if someone could identify the year and size and any other info you can give me for this model.

Thanks, Rodney

Hi and welcome to the forum according to the manual if you have a 1990 model 5803, its a 587 engine. If it's a 94 SP it still has the 587 engine. The only models in 94 that had the 657 engine were the GTX, SPX, and the XP. So chances are you have the 587 engine.

Is there any where i can give the ein and tell year of motor? I bought some ngk spark plugs (br7es stock no.5122) but they where longer than what was in it. Champion 320 is whats in it but looking in the hole it looks like the ones in it are to short. Thats y i want to know the year of motor and size.

I suppose you could trace the SN on the motor to the exact year. I really doesn't say alot because a ski that old probably doesn't have the original motor in it anyway. If you join this forum as a premium member it gives you full access to the forum library and you could research your ski.

Oh, btw, from your serial no. the last two digits is the year, so you have a 1990 ski.

I don't know of anyplace where you can get the year the motor was manufactured from the serial number, you'll have to contact BRP or Rotax to see if their records go back that far, and if they will give you the information. As I said before its probably not the original motor anyway.

You can check out this website they might have the info. you're looking for.

The 587 yellow motor was only made from '88-'91 and your ski is a '90 so I would assume it has the original motor in it. That was the only engine available at that time and it wasn't bad for that time but it did have some issues. The revised white version in 92 was much improved.

On a side note, when buying a ski, you should always check the HIN(VIN for you car guys) against the title but I know TN does not title but they do register. The point is that people steal skis and then provide a different title. The HIN can be checked to see if it is stolen through SeaDoo. If it's missing a HIN, don't buy it! or at least check the 2nd HIN number found inside the engine compartment if there is a valid reason for the one on the back missing.
