Help 95 GTX

Got it from my uncle and I’m pretty new to all this. Took it out about 2 month ago and ran great. Last week took it out and it started and idled on the trailer, but would immediately bog down to any throttle input. After about the minutes it stalled out and wouldn’t start again. After doing some reading i decided carbs needed to be redone and it still had the old gray fuel line. So i rebuilt the carbs and replaced fuel lines. Took it out today hoping to set the low and high speed screws after the rebuild.

Today i can only get it to start wth full choke. Set the low screw to spec of 1 1/2 out. Ski starts and runs for about 10 seconds and then dies I’ve tried the low speed mixture screw in to 1/2 and out to 2 1/2 but no change. Under full choke i have little to no response on the throttle.

Any suggestions?

How long did the ski sit before you rode it? Sounds like you need to go through the carbs. If the adjustments aren't making a difference.... you got blockages. This is common after any engine sits a while. The run good at first but are ingesting all the build up, varnish and gook in the lines. As that stuff begins breaking loose it plugs these intricate passages that are critical to proper metering and atomization of fuel. As many here will tell you.... stick with Mikuni parts and pieces. Ok. I went through the carbs but not sure the parts were Mikuni as i inherited them with the ski. It runs in my driveway on the hose but experienced what i have read is called lean runaway. Wasn’t ready for that. So looks like carbs with Mikuni kit and makin sure i get a good seal. Thanks for your advice

Yikes that is scary !! I have a few friends that told me Sea Foam is a great tune up. LOL I am still skeptical but I am willing to give that a try. If I were you, I'd just get a genuine mikuni kit and replace the needles and seats and spring as well. I often find non mikuni needles and seats in carbs I pull apart. Do it once if you can afford it and you can look elsewhere with confidence for any problems you may have.

Also make sure you replace the fuel selector. Follow the carb rebuild thread on here. Especially the part about spraying out the three small holes in the carb throat by spraying carb cleaner through the jets. Never use sea foam in a 2 stroke as it will break down your oil. It’s a solvent.

If it's running away you're either too little fuel or you have an air leak.

When you go through the carbs you have to make sure to get all the jets and tiny passages clear. Aftermarket carb parts aren't likely causing the lean condition... The ski just won't run well in the water if they're the problem.

Check the carb base gaskets, crankshaft end seal and your rotary valve cover o-ring. If you can get it to run without it running away spray some WD-40 in these locations while running. If you get a change in RPM, you found a leak.
