Has anyone ever seen a crack in the casing on a 951 such as this?

Allowed a guy to trade in a mint shape 99 GSX and he told me there was a issue with the motor cracked or ?.
Didn't really take the time to check as I only have $300 in the ski and it is in mint shape. Upon closer exam the motor is aftermarket with low hours and great compression.
Upon closer examination in the rear directly below the head I noticed a hole where apparently something is missing as well as a crack in the casing and so forth.
Would it be worth trying to fix this or is it best to part it out and be done with it?

Yup, the counterbalancer blew out the case. 951 cases are known to fail. A good set of cases will cost you a couple hundred. If you were close to me I would buy it off you for $500 and let you make a couple hundred. The motor will have to come out and if you send it in most places need a core. One shop will weld the cases but I would just get new cases.

Core value is low, but give FULLBORE, SES, or SBC a call for a remanufactured replacement. You'll need the alignment fixture setup to get the new motor centered up and parallel with the impeller drive shaft.

This isnt a 951....its most likely a 787 RFI. The 951s dont have that type of cap.

This is typical of motors that got sunk and water found its way into the CB cavity. It doesnt always happen, but it can. Then the bearing comes apart, the CB whips around and boom goes the dynamite.

I have some cases, rebuilt CB, and a used crank gone thru by a crank expert if you are planning on putting it back together.
