Hey guys!!

I bought a 1995 sporster a little while ago! The boat runs and idles great, however I have a hard time starting it from cold. I think the carbs are WAY too lean cause it always smells flooded. (btw i have NO choke on at this point, ever...choking it will add more gas and flood even more) Also, I boat once a week and after the boat sits for the week it is eating up my plugs. I use NGK BR8ES I believe. The gap comes at .020" and i have read that .040" is the proper gap...I have tried everything from the stock .020" to .025, .030, .035, .038, .040"

Basically, I believe its a carb adjustment! What do I do?!?!?

After this issue is fixed, I will be squeezing some more HP out of it hopefully. I have done about $500 in upgrade to my 1997 Seadoo GSI with the same engine and I got about 7 more MPH top end when alone so if I could get 5 more mph (about 15hp i assume) from this motor in my sporster, that'd be great!

ur 97 has a 717, where ur sportster has the 657...with no choke, and smells flooded, think ur needles are leak'n(located inside the carbs..needle and seat assy). Not sure on the gap, but the 717 should be around .024.
Considering, that theres not much difference in HP, I know the 14.5/22.5 Swirl does wonders for the single 717 Sportster...
