GTX Supercharged won't go past 35 - Slipping Washer?

I have a 2003 4-Tec GTX Supercharged. Running fine last year but on first use this year won't go past 35mph. And running a little rough. The engine sound has changed as well, to a deeper, more growling sound. Probably 150 hours on the engine.

Checked the oil - it was high so removed some (problem remained). Using correct Bombardier oil (mineral, not synthetic).

Using the correct "key".

We tried to spin supercharger impeller by hand - it could not be spun.

As I understand, 2003 model did NOT use ceramic washers, but is still prone to slipping. Is it possible to be slipping under load but not be spun by hand?

At 150 hours, is it due for supercharger overhaul? If it is slipping washers, what else should be replaced?

IF the 2003 does not have ceramic washers that may disintegrate, is light use OK (about 3-5 hours) until I can bring in for service?

Anything else to check?

Any suggestions for repair shop in Brainerd, MN or Minneapolis area?

Ok what are your rpms at WOT??? if you cant spin it then i dont thing the charger is your problem. And supercharger needs a FULL rebuild every 100hrs so it time to pull it off and rebuild it.

First, 50 hours (actually 52), not 150. A communication problem.

My son says running fine this AM. Will see if it continues to run fine this PM. I guess now my question is this:

Given that the 2003 does not have the ceramic washer, am I OK waiting for the 100 hours for a rebuild? Or is it best to do now?

if you only have 52hrs on it then you should be fine :cheers:

I was thinking in the book it says the super charger should be inspected every 25 hours. I do agree it dnt need a rebuild until the 100 hr mark per the book.

yup you should do that. as the charger wears the washers will wear away at the gear witch lossens the slip for the washers and wears out the washers faster. so yes charger should be pullled off every 25hrs and inspected for any signs of wear.

Just had my boat on the water last weekend and would only hit top speed of 40 mph. and just didn't have the acceleration on take-off ...very sluggish. Had it checked out, and yep it was the supercharger. only have 72 hrs on it. Would any other reasons cause the supercharger to go other than hours run?

The ceramic washers suck and can fail at anytime. some go at 2hrs and sometimes they last till 100hr all the luck of the draw. If synthetic oil was use that can cause them to go.

If the washers failed youll need to pull the motor out and clean it out.

Thanks. Dealer has ordered a new SC kit. Would this new kit use steel washers vs. the ceramic ones. I'm the second owner and had the oil & filter changed during the winterization...hoping the dealer is using the mineral oil. I will ask when I pick it up this week.
Anything else i should be prepared for? This is my first full summer with it, 72 hours on it now. Just don't want any new surprises. Of course, i don't know what the previous owner(s) did or did not do.

What failed in the supercharger?????

make sure they

-2008 supercharger rebuild kit....
-replace both oil pumps
-inspect timing chain for any nics/marks (if its maked up at all it MUST
be replace or it could fail)
-clean all the broken sc parts out of the motor. (will most likely need
to remove motor from the boat)


where are you from & witch dealer is doing the work???
