gtx start problem

Thank you to all the people who helped me.I started from the battery and took off,cleaned and reinstalled one wire at a time.The power lead at the starter, was the connection that had the problem.You need fingers like ET to get to the damn thing.The buzzer still goes off for 2 secs about once a minute but the ski is running great.I'll buy some ear plugs.
 
Check the coolant hose from where it exits engine to where it exits ski that its clean. The last hose connector sometimes restricts if it gets sludge thru it. The
beeeing is the overheat warning beeper. Observe when you launch that you get
good flow. I have seen the threee holes in jetpump ventura clog. (just in front
of the prop blade) or get pebles in them, and prevent water pressure to engine.

+1...unplug the sensor wire, see if the sound disappears. If so, replace the temp sensor.

Brown wire

the sensor wire should be a brown wire that goes to the head inwhich your sparkplugs screw into disconnect that wire and see if the noise stops if it does replace the sensor. If it does you may have a short in the electronics box where the computer is. But i would flush the ski just to be on the safe side.

Although you may have done a whole heap of other things to find out your starting probs were just a wire, you now know a little bit more about the pwc you own.

I know that forums like this have been invaluable for our 99 GTX LTD.

I am absolutely no expert but am amazed at just how little, pwc mechanics in Melbourne know about the products THEY or their dealerships happily sell to customers. A few weeks ago a well known service centre we used to take our skis to told me the GTX needed a new throttle cable because when they tested it the ski revved the crap out of it's self and they suspected that the cable was getting stuck. The service 'manager' said that with the throttle getting stuck it was a potential 'death trap'. They wanted to charge $500 for a new one!! The ski had NEVER done this to me before so I told them to leave it.
To make a long story short after I inspected it at home and snooped around on this wonderful forum, I noticed that they had not switched on the fuel valve. I rang them, upon which the guy who did the 'service' asked What fuel valve???? They'd never switched it on during start up, thats why it revved high, they didn't even know the gtx had one!!!!....they would of happily made me part with $500 for something that never had to be fixed. THEIR incompetence could have wasted $500 of MY money.
We have ridden it heaps of times since and have NEVER had a problem.

Not all pwc mechanics are this bad and it took us months to find a decent 'experienced' mechanic.

So well done it's great to see you had the perseverence to track it down.
The guys on this forum KNOW their stuff and you know the irony of it all....is that they do it for FREE!!

Chill.Thank you so much for your throttle problem.It really is hard to find a good/great mechanic.If anyone Brisbane /Gold Coast wants one .I found him.------ On the Gold coast.Buzzer going off,No problem,I can fix it.Take me 20 mins.Fuel lines.Being grey.I can do that while you have a sandwich.I have all the gear ready.This guy just got back from the world jet ski titles in the usa and placed in the top 10 in stock and unlimited got also in the top 10.This guy builds his own skis.I have had a good talk to him and he is so helpfull.they raced in the stock class and then BOLTED on a blower to go in the unlimited class.They also got in the top ten.IN the World.There workshop is spotless.He showed me all different types of problems with diff skis, and why they are doing the work to them.It was a pleasure to see a good workshop

Can you give me his details please. Also interested in what he said about the grey fuel lines in Oz because I have spoken to a number of ski owners in the UK and Oz that have not had a problem with grey fuel lines. Have also spoken to my local Seadoo dealership who also said they have never heard of a fuel line problem and they have been in business for years. On further investigation I think it may be due to ethanol breaking down the lines but as ethanol was only introduced in OZ and the UK a couple of years ago and all fuel pumps in my area say don’t use on watercraft or planes I have never used it and the 10 year old ski runs fine. I understand it is definitely a problem in the States but not sure about OZ that’s why I am interested.
 
G'Day mate.The guy is on the nth end of the Gold Coast.I'll send you his name and contact details in another reply as I have left them at work.As for the fuel lines,they have pretty much nutted it out and know what and when to look for.I'll get back to you.
