GTX SC only runs 43mph!?!

We bought some used skis from a friend of a friend. We just took them out for the 1st time today. So I thought it was just slow because me and my wife were both on it. We dropped off her and parents and rode seperate. As soon as I got out of the wake zone I gunned it. It got up to speed ok, but still only do 43 or so. I turn around and look and here comes my wife doing 74 on the GTI 155.

Hmmmm, does anyone know what could be wrong or should I just take it back to the dealer?

Sounds like the supercharger isn't working. By the way, the 155 GTI cannot go 74 MPH without heavy modifications.

OK well in unless the speedo wheel is bad, or its set on kmh than its wrong but the dash showed 74. I dont know? I know my GTX was only running 43, the GTI would walk away from it quickly. SO....

But anyway, I looked at the GTX when I got home. Ends up the coolant container was detached and laying on its side down in the engine bay. Maybe it was staving for coolant and the engine cut back on the throttle so it wouldnt over heat. Or, I did read on some other posts something about a learning key? Its a first me cause I had a Kawasaki 1100 that did not have that. So maybe Im running the learning key now.

Ill take a few more suggestions then take it the shop to see if the SC isnt working.

The suggestions made are probably spot on. You are also wise to look into the learning key possibility. I'm not sure what year you have or if the lanyard colors have been consistent from year to year, but I have a 2010 GTX and the keys are as follows...

Green: Learning Key:ack:
White: Learning Key
Orange: Rental Key (limited Speed):redface:
Yellow: Fully Functional Key:driving:

The Yellow and Green keys came with my machine. I don't know why they have a White key available for purchase.

F.Y.I....Dennis is correct, the normally aspirated 155 engine doesn't do 74mph without "help". My 2010 GTX155 tops out around 62 (with a little wind to my back).

I was right about the kmp. They changed it to MPH. Also I was told the crappy ceramic washer was shot. There rebuilding the SC and cleaning the motor for about 1200. I also did look into the learning key more after I had posted. And had found the colors. I just didn't have my ski on hand to look and match it up. Mine is black. But thanks for looking out.

the learning key limits it to 35 mph and it is white( at least on the older 4tecs) what is your RPMs?

I think they were about 5k to 5500. Don't really remember. But the SC is being rebuilt now.

I think you will see your 60mph with the rebuilt SC. Sounds like that was your problem.

Is it a GTX 215? if so, the last one of those I was on only did about 60mph. It got there quick but I think Top speed was around 60.

You will be happy once you get the full 215hp out of her.

Got it back, runs great! I got like 65 or 66 out of it. Now Im looking for a few mods. Bout to make a new post for mods....Ill look for some old posts first..see what pops up.

Said the ceramic washer was shot. They removed engine to clean inside if it out to make sure there was no shrapnel left in it. Replaced all internal parts of SC and new oil and filter.

All 4tech have yelow key, but GTX LTD have back one always.
