GTX DI vs 4-TEC

I'm looking at a couple of 2002 GTX's for sale. One is a DI and the other a 4-TEC. They are close to the same price and have about the same number of hours (50-60). I'm planning to go look at both this week but wanted to get some input on which is the preferred model considering everything else equal. From the specs it looks like the 4-Tec is over 100lbs heavier. I know the naturally aspirated 4-TEC's are pretty bullet proof but what about the 951? I use to own a 96 GSX with the 780 motor and it was a great powerplant but I remember hearing the 951's are a bit more tempermental. True?

Both are good skis... but they both have their down falls.

The 4-tech is good since it's a 4 stroke. You don't have to pay for expensive 2-stroke oil, and as you said... the N.A. engine is strong and has minimal maintenance. BUT... when a 4 stroke PWC decides to drop a valve... there is no warning, and it's every expensive to fix.

The Di is good because the engine replacement is much cheaper, and it's a more simple design. But, when the Di develops problems, it's hard to diagnose, and fuel related parts are expensive.

My personal thoughts are to either buy an older ski with carbs... or new enough to have a warranty on it. But, a 4-tech with low hours will probably be the safest bet between the 2 skis listed. Since it's not a hot-rod, there is a good chance that there are very few WOT hours on it.

Good luck, and let us know what you get.

Thanks for the feedback in regards to reliability/maintenance. I am also interested in how these two would compare performance wise. Power out of the hole and top speed. Fairly similar?
