Gtx di 02 cracked exhaust .. Thoughts on the repair?..

I discovered this crack on my exhaust pipe after seeing some puffs of smoke one day.. I am the second owner so I only just noticed it. Looks like it's been there for years. I would say the exhaust was fitted out of true and has caused it to fracture????

I have filled it with high temperature silicone and it seems to have sealed it very well. Any reason why I can't leave it like it permanently?

Any thoughts? I thought about taking it off and having it welded but I don't want to disturb the seal at the manifold.

Ive never seen one break there!

I would recommend just replacing it....but shipping would be $$. I got one cheap though if you want to go that route.

Yea I did think it was somewhat unusual ..! I think it is cracked half way around. Sure, shipping would be ridicules really but thanks for the kind offer.

$35+ ship is all I need...but im sure it would cost like $100 in shipping. The repair looks pretty good, but I'd have a hard time believing its going to hold up over time.

agree, I'd say its a good idea to start looking for a replacement, future failure is inevitable...

951 pipes generally are pretty easy to come by (at least here in the US) After trying for 5 months to sell a couple sets that I had for peanuts I think I threw the prettiest one in the attic, and the ugliest one in the trash.

You could always grind into the crack and fill it with weld. I dont know what type of metal it is made of though. OR grind it down, fill it with JB weld. That would be the fastest fix. Alot better than silicone.

So, if I remove the top pipe, Is the manifold gasket reusable? Is it rubber? And it looks like a large sealing ring seals the two large diameter pipe joints together. Will this be reusable or do I have to use one? Will HT silicone suffice?

The JB weld is not permanent, a weld would be better, but I would say it would last at least 5 or more years. It all depends how you prepare the surface. It could last the life of the seadoo.

To remove the pipe, you need to remove the 3 allan bolts, then the 15mm nut on the bottom. Normally, you have to remove the carbs to get to it! Then undo the mounting bracket and the band clamp and hoses. You will then need a new manifold gasket (should use a new one) The mating surface of the two large pipe halves needs to be cleaned very well and high temp RTV, or your silicone. Then loctite 242 the bolts to reassemble. NOT on the band clamp though. Make sure to align the two halves and tighten the band clamp before bolting to the manifold.
