I have a 1997 GTX. There were two instrument functions that did not work when we bought it, the gas guage and the compass. Would like to get these fixed this winter. I'm starting with what I hope is the easy one first, the compass. The replacement I bought is part no. 278-001-243, but after receiving I found the original is a part no. 278-001-057. The .....243 is from around 2000 I believe. I haven't been able to get an answer from SeaDoo, can anyone tell me if the ....243 is compatable with my older model? Is it a replacement for the ....057?

Compass...?

Yes, the correct stock number for the compass is 278-001-007. The compass they sent you is for the 1998 GTX-RFI. They both use the 787cc engine and both compasses seem to be a compatible fit. They both have the same number of connectors and wire colors. I've seen this difference in part numbers before. It was due to a change in engine systems, like when a motor goes from natural aspirated to RFI or DI. So, I believe the one they sent you will work.

Oh, the GTX of that year does not have the VTS, though I wish it did.

Thanks for the reply and for checking this out. I had noticed the wiring and plugs were the same but was concerned that with a different part no., there was some difference to it that might damage other parts of the display if I plugged it in. I hadn't heard that they might have different part no.s for the same unit. Thanks again
