I have (2) GTX 215 4-tec 2007's and took them out for the first run on the year and I'm only getting 50mph out of both of them. They were both winterized and then I put new plugs in and fresh batteries. Both were stored on boat lifts with covers. They seem to run smooth but I'm only getting about 50mph at 6500 RPM. Any suggestions??

Most likely failed supercharger's. Pull the intake hose off the supercharger and see if the impeller spins. If it does then its blown....

I bought them new and they ran great when I put them away for the season.
The weird thing is they are both running exactly the same.
Will check the superchargers next but was hoping for something more simple.
Thanks.

if snythetic oil was used in both then that would explaint it. EVERY SC 4tec ive seen that has low rpms but still runs good has been from a supercharger related problem. The washers could still be intack but just sliping really bad.

I agree...I have a buddies Jet Boat in my yard...19 hrs old...Super Charger blown...only gets 6500 rpms runs good he says...fan blades move in the super charger...1 week left on warranty. Talk about good timing...

When I hear Super Charger, I think about why I didn't invent replacement washers...Everyone I have ever seen or heard about has a maintenance problem. There might be some I haven't heard about...but the forum is about problems so I'm not surprised...nobody every comes here saying their seadoo runs perfect...just the problems are the highlight. :ack:

Man this tread puts chills down my spine... I JUST bought two new 2008 GTX 215's to replace the GTI's I had.. Is this a common thing? is there something I need to do in order to prevent this from happening. Hearing this just put a huge pit in my stomach, what can I do to stop this and should I look at an extended warenty ?

The 08's I believe have the new washers in the Super Charger already. You need to keep up on maintenance to be sure it doesn't go too far and need an over haul. Usually you should give it a check over at 25 hrs of use, and expect a rebuild at 100 hrs of use. The worst thing for the washers is jumping waves with the throttle wide open and hitting the water at maxed rpm's. That's when the super charger is taking a beating from the sudden jolt of water back in the impeller/ jet pump after free spinning...Let off on the throttle as you leave the water.

So those of us with say a 2007 model need to overhaul the super chagers at 100 hrs???? What that cost/ Approx?

You should be able to do it yourself for about less than $100.00 or have the dealer I think charge..$350.00+ from what I have heard before any damage is involved...oil pump, timing chain/ gear ect.

Thanks... I've got 64hrs on mine rtight now and it does run great (knock on wood) Anything to look for prior to a failure or is it just by chance? Do you have to go back with ceramic washers or can you use the better ones?

Will do!!!! Hard to do yourself?

I like working on my own stuff but am not shy about knowing my limts and willing to have a pro do it if need to.

It's possible to do it yourself. You might want to get the Manual from the "Premium Member" section here on the forum in case you get stuck.

RPM's if at WOT your rpms are dropping then thats a sigin the charger could be on its way out or has failed.

Ceramic Washers should be recalled

If an engine part fails prematurely, it should be recalled. In my opinion BRP has acknowledged this by suggesting the ceramic washers be replaced with metal washers. If you own a supercharged version, watch out. BRP customer service will give you the run around, when you can reach them. My (2) 2007 GTX 215's have been in the shop for 7 weeks now. Part of it was determining the warranty coverage. I made the mistake of troubleshooting myself over several weekends by following the owner's manual before dragging them into an authorized dealer, missing the warranty period by 3 weeks. (I should have gone to this site first!!!) The other part is when the ceramic washers fail, it is recommended the engine be torn down to make sure there are no fragments inside the engine. This is above and beyond the expense of the kit. TIME AND MONEY AND HEADACHES!! When this is done, new parts and gaskets are needed which takes more time to get. I paid the big bucks to buy both of these new so I would not have any headaches.

take the charger out and put it in a vice hold the cog with a wrench and put a torx on the nut turn ,you should be getting 8-12 lbs for a good charger anything less overhaul it ,also fit a riva bov to ease the pressure on the charger it make it last that bit longer

a BOV wont help save the charger and is just a wast of money. Cause th SC is gear drivin when the engines rpms drop the boost does aswell, What hard on the SC is coming unhooked so best thing is to replace the stock intake grate witch will help keep the ski hooked up, It will also improve fuel economy and your topspeed. You can also shim the charger to bring the slip into spec aslong as the parts are all in good shape.

false advertiseing by riva then?

In a way yes.... thats for there stage III kit with the higher boost S3 charger and even then its still not worth the money. BOV's release when theres to much pressure, with a gear drivin charger you wont have that problem as the boost level is controled by engine rpms, When you let off the throttle the rpms and boost level drop so there will never be to much pressure. BOV's can develop leaks witch can actually decrease performance. Now if you were running a turbo set-up a BOV would be a must.
