GTI speed / performance question

I took the new/used 04' GTI LE RFI out for its first spin yesterday. I think it ran great but just wanted to ask if this sounds normal for speeds. Topped out at about 50-52 mph in fairly choppy conditions. Full of fuel and oil, little bit of junk on board and just me at about 165 lbs.

The boat ran very well. This is the first sit down type of ski I have ever owned. Only the 2nd one I have ever ridden. I rode stand ups when I was younger and been on dirt bikes and street bikes for years so I really have no comparison.

I thought it rode well and handled pretty good for a big ski. Had a nice 30-35 mph cruise and I ran it for about 2 hours straight and burned very little fuel, maybe 3 gallons. I will know for sure the next time I fill it up. I was not over impressed by hosepower at all but I think for what I will use the boat for, just a family cruiser/play boat, it is just fine. But if we can go out and play for a few hours and not burn very much gas, I can deal with a little less horse power. I really like having a simple 2-stroke motor too.

For my first impression of the ski, I am very happy and I think it will make a great summer play boat for my wife, our little girl and me.

Yep... that seems just about right for that ski. It's a big, heavy 3-seater, with an 800cc engine in it.

Is it stock, or did the last owner do anything to it? Things to help the "Out of the hole" performance will generally scrub top speed.

As far as I can tell, it is all stock. I feel like its performance is about right on par with what it was made to do in the first place. For the moment I am not really interested in picking up the performance levels on this one. Might just keep it the family cruiser and if I really want some higher performance, then later on find another machine that is built to run. Then we can have the cruiser and the sport machine.

Hi,

I've got a 96, the top speed on yours is probably a couple of mph faster than mine. Yours is 8yrs. newer, also your ski is getting better gas mileage than mine. I wouldn't do a thing, sounds like its really running well.
