GTI crancks over but wont start... please help

my 2002 GTI crancks over twice but wont start and then all I get is a spinning sound like from the starter solenoid or the starter. can any body help please? what can it be? or what can i check or change?

Make sure battery is good - have it load tested for free at autozone. Make sure connections are clean on hots and grounds. Not enough juice will make the spinning sound because the bendix wont pop out if low voltage. But when it has just enough it may pop and engage but not be enough to fire the engine over.

OK, so i got the battery charged and cleaned all the connections and i'm still getting the same thing. it cranks 2 or 3 times and then it just spins.

WHAT ELSE CAN I CHECK?

check you voltage coming out of the starter relay to the starter. If the voltage is good you probably have a bad starter.
