ok so the 99 gsx rfi only has an info gauge and was wondering if it is possible to add an analog speedo gauge? if so would it be plug and play or some mod needed? what would be required to make it happen? i know , i know, it's just a dream o meter lol!

I did exactly what you're talking about to my 96GSX, it's been awhile but I think I just hooked it up directly, you just need the speedo pickup the gauge and +12v. I'll see if I can find the thread and post the link.

thanks lou. i read the link and is very helpful. even though i'm bad at reading schematics, i could see where the 2 pin plug black and purple go to the info gauge +&-..but am at a loss where the other 3 wires go. did you make a long harness to reach the speedo sensor plug? i was kinda hoping that the info gauge had extra plugs to just plug the analog speedo to or tap into the wires color code/ match.
i know the gsx limited has the setup i'm talking about which is why i figured it would be easy. later i will pull the hood apart and ck it out. then i would need to buy a speedo from a 99 gsx limited and a dash bezel that would accommodate 2 gauges. the the schematic on the other thread i can see the black and purple wires hot and ground on the speedo and the same color wires on the info gauge, can i make the connections there? the maybe find the other 3 speedo wires from the info center to analog speedo?

you know, im not sure but i was looking at the info center from a 99 gsx on ebay and there are 3 different plugs, one big multi pin plug that plugs in the mpem then a 2 pin plug and a 4 pin plug. then i looked at a speedo from a 99 and it has a 2 pin plug and a 4 pin both the opposite sex plugs from info to speedo. hmmm could it be where you plug the speedo to the info center? anyone? i cant tell the wire colors looking at the pics.

@ sportster, not a bad idea however i also want the look of matching gauges. i know,, i'm kinda weird that way lol!

I just ran a three conductor wire from the speedo sensor to the gauge, you can use a two conductor if you don't care about the lake temp. sensor, once we figured it out it was pretty simple to do. I did loose the analog tachometer, but there's a digital one on the multi-gauge.

Actually the speedometer is more accurate than you would think, it about 2-3mph fast at WOT, I checked it against a GPS.

thanks lou, sounds easy enough. if you don't mind i have one more question. i know your gsx had a factory tac, was it plugged in the info center? the reason im asking is that by looking at the pics i believe that on a 99 gsx limited the speedo is plugged in the info center. oin the 99 gsx limited, the info has the big plug to the mpem and 2 additional plugs one 4 pin square plug and a 2 pin flat. the speedo has the same 2 plugs but the opposite sex which leads me to believe that's where the speedo plugs in. then it should be the same with the rfi.
has anyone fooled with the gauges on a 98/99 gsx limited to confirm this? thanks.

thanks everyone i found my answer. on a 99 gsxl, the speedo gauge does indeed plug into the info center. my rfi doesn't have the plugs so i would either need to get a info from a gsxl that has the plugs or find the color coded wires to tap into via schematics. which should be easily done.
also the gtx has the triple gauge setup so the info center on the gtx has all the plugs for speedo and rpm gauges. the rfi however doesn't have a analog speedo so therefor probably to cut cost, the factory didn't include the plugs for it on the info gauge.

if i get around to adding a analog speedo, i will post the results.
hope this helps someone in the future. thanks again.

how to??

i just bought a speedo from ebay off a 99 gsxl. looking at the schematic based from a 99 gtx rfi there are 2 connectors on the speedo. one 2 wire and one 3 wire. the 2 wire plug has a purple positive and a black wire neg wire that goes to the same color wires on the info center. now the 3 wire plug has a purple, black and a purple with yellow stripe. i believe the purple with yellow stripe wire goes to the purple with yellow striped wire on the info center, (see schematic pic) but not sure where to hook the purple and black wire to. one the schematic i drew a red line on where i think to hook the purple with yellow stripe wire. does that sound right? now where to i hook the purple and black wires to?

tell me if i'm right as i think i may have it figured out. the analog speedo has 2 plugs, 1 2 wire plug purple and black wires that go to power supply purple and black wires to info gauge, the 3 wire connector has a purple with yellow stripe that goes to the same colored wire to info gauge which goes to mpem that feeds the purple w/ yellow stripe to speed sensor, the purple and black wires are as a power supply for another gauge such as a tack (daisy chain) for use on a gtx triple gauge setup so i can just leave those wires alone. see pic
does it matter if i hook the purple / yellow stripe wire to info center or speed sensor? should be the same right?
