hey guys had the 97 GSX out this weekend and i was messing around a little with the rpm guages and in flat water going wide open i cant get her to go over 6400... fuel lines have been replced ,raves cleaned and inspected,147 on the nose for comp. in both cylinders , carbs cleaned ,selector cleaned, raves are set at about 2 turns in water reg. set at flush, new plugs br8es ,i know the guage is accurate because my xp will almost keep up with the GSX and thats not normal although it does make me feel good thast the wife cant outrun me for now

That seems to be the gremlin going around. You can see my thread for some thoughts.

Double check the raves. Take the tops off and make sure they slide in and out with the exhaust valve.

I still find it weird the gsx is faster than then xp/spx 787 and they are lighter.

Just to be clear did yours use to turn 6600-6800 and has lost a step or is this a new acquistion you are trying to bring up to snuff? My SPX which isn't stock will walk my GSX by 4-5 MPH. I have been planning to swap the motors and run them against the stalker again but haven't had the time to make the swap and dial the motors into their new homes.

when i first got it i could run 7k no problem ...then this year it seems to be doing this i pulled the raqves and cleaned them ..they do slide back and forth with ease so i dont think thats the problem

New last year, but hasn't been 100% as I have had to keep fixing the odd thing. But regardless, I have read that the gsx will do around 62mph while the spx will only do 58 ish.

Try running with your seat off and see if any kind of leak. How I noticed my water regulator was leaking.

welll.......i think i found the problem but not sure yet...ran it on the hose and while it was running i happened to notice a very thin stream of water shooting out of the bottom of the pipe...apparently there is a pin sized hole in the bottom of the pipe ...it is right on the part where there is a little circular bump on the pipe can see it but ive been searching now for a while on the forum and apparently thoise rot out at that spot

Yes they do. get it rewelded.

But I doubt it will make a difference sorry. My brothers had the same thing last year and he was still flying with no drops in rpms.

But you never know. Why it should be tested with it's seat off. You find things like that.

yeah gonna fix it tonite....as far as the rpm's go im at a loss i cant get it figured out ive tried it all with htis thing anybody else have any ideas ....oh and by the way ill add this in here ...I had a discussion with a dealership about needing a fuel float for my 95xp ..thry told me that the 95 does not have a float you have to buy the whole baffle assembly ....so i ordered a float off line and installed it last night and it works like a charm so dont believe everything you are told by dealerships ....i will never ever take a ski to a dealership if i can help it...BUT....i do have to get a new DESS key for the gsx since the wife tied the ski to the dock with the lanyard....DDont ask ..........so i may have to take it in for that ...but moral of the story is YES THE 95 xp HAS A FUEL FLOAT dont let them tell you otherwise

Hey Brock, did you loose the DESS or did the lanyard just break? If you still have the DESS, you can save yourself money and time by buying a regular boat lanyard and attaching it to your DESS. That's what I did for less than $10.

neither it just tore the lanyard up..it stretched the cord out so now there is no (spring) left in it and the outer shell is torn off ..i dont know why she did this...seems like as soon as i get something fixed on these she broke something else LOL :banghead:

Basically what happened to mine. The vinyl coating cracked all up and all fell off of mine just leaving the cord core. I cut it off and bought a universal boat lanyard from BassPro and attached the DESS to it. The lanyard is now red instead of black, but good as new.

Solution, put a do not touch sign on.

have you resolved the drop in RPM issue ?
I have a buddy experiencing the same problem and we've yet to be able to locate the source. He did change from stock nozzles to aftermarket, but from what I know about nozzles it shouldn't drop from 7K to 6400 with that swap, maybe 1-200 but certainly not 600.

no still havent got it figured out...went out last night and got it to 6640 on flat water but it took a while to get there ...if anybody else hasd any ideas feel free to chime in

Ya me either. Gonna try this weekend. It won't take half throttle to get it there. Worth a shot to see. I would imagine the raves will open with no load. might tell you where the rev limiter is set at.
