Luckily it still would idle at about 5mph,really hot in Texas, that bimini was worth its weight today.Does this happen often on these boats?Going to remove pump this evening and undo carbon seal to inspect damage, hope its not the pto flywheel too.

measure up the driveshaft, and post the dimension. I got one from 97spx(great condition), i'll sell

I`ll do that, just pulled pump and am looking at manual on how to release carbon seal. Also is there any handy utinsel that releases the clamps on the pto, will need to inspect inner splines.Thanks-measure lenght and spline dia.?

The shaft is 18 inches with 3 grooves for o-ring to hold seal.Although I don`t see spin marks on splines. The carbon seal is ate up might have shifted in boot and started heavy cav. Also through hull appears to be a piece of black pvc 1.5 in dia[thought that would be tighter].Need to go to manual. Thanks

I had to replace a drive shaft and PTO on the starboard side a few years ago, the culprit was PTO only. The work was easy but I could not get the boot clamps back on, used zip ties instead  Hope you get her back together soon.

Sorry for my lack of knowlege, but what is the pto? The shaft is off the motor but the pto? What does a power take off power on a sea doo boat?

c1800,could you see marks on shaft spline indicating a spline failure in pto.I`m going to remove larger clamp this evening so I can inspect pto splines.Zip tyes would work fine, never thought of that. Was pto hard to remove[use impellar tool?]? I`ve heard of putting rope in cylinders. Also man is it hot working on this boat,a real sweat fest right now[104 ]. Near Cedar Creek

Northernz, pto is the small flywheel the shaft splines into on aft. side of engine. Also you`ll read on post about Carbs, will refur to mag side and pto side carbs etc.It take time to figure these doo` out, then something else happens.

Not really, the damage to the pto splines was very noticeable as compared to the shaft splines. The shaft is stainless steel so pretty tough to damage whereas pto is softer so easier to damage. I did not use a rope but used the plastic tool that you screw in the spark plug threads, stops the piston before tdc. Un-torquing the pto definitely gave me a head rush, had to use a pipe wrench + monkey bar. Yeah the temps these days sure are balmy

Thanks all,I`m going to check pto splines this evening.Seadooya will let you know later this evening. It has to be spinning, wouldn`t cav. that much?No water what so ever in hull after loading.
