Hi. Im new here. Want to but the kids a couple used skis. Im going to look at 06 rxt 215. It has 110 hours. Wlhat should i look for? Are they still reliable at 100 hours? Im not crazy about what im reading on here about breakdowns. Oh yeah. The guy is asking 6200. Is that a decent deal? Thanks for aNy help

first of, water test it! that tells you everything! but considering your in new york, figuring water is still too cold to ride, have him plug it in. take seat off, let engine run, press throttle few times! check if it accelerates and decelerates normaly, as well its got 110 hours, supercharger was either rebuilt and if not, it will need to be rebuilt! ( thats a must). check that the dash ( analog) works fine, and take a look at the engine bay make sure nothing seems crazy! otherwise considering this time a year. since you cant ride it thats the best you can do, there is more specific stuff to look at but the other members who know more then me will tell you all about it!!! as for reliability! from personal experience seadoo last very long! look at all the 90's seadoo still running! and as for the price of 6200$ from my region, would seem fairly priced as for your region im not too sure!

Test ride test ride test ride!!!! I've seen skis that ran perfectly out of the water but once you splash them in under load they weren't going anywhere. Supercharger is at its end at 100 hrs. Find out if it has been rebuilt and if not factor that into your cost. Also there were some issues with the valve train in 05 and 06. If the owner says that has been fixed demand proof or walk away. You don't want to front the bill when an exhaust valve kisses a piston. It gets ugly quick. As far as price you're good to go assuming all things kosher.

Oh and as far as the motor still being reliable at or after 100 hrs the answer is yes. If it is maintained properly and all preventative maintenance is up to date, your motor should outlast your ski. I've seem them as high as 600 hrs with no major issues.

Thanks. I looked at it. He says that the charger only has 3 hours since rebuild. Going to dealer tomorrow to get his paperwork copies. Looks clean. Pending deal on paperwork for 6k.

Sounds like a very good deal then! Congrats! Get pics and post! :-)

On the valves issue, the exhaust valves on the early 2006 4TEC engines were still the sodium filled hollow valves and they're prone to corrosion of the valve stem causing cracks which then allows the valve head to break off and destroy the cylinder... if you pull the valve cover and examine the stems closely, you'll see they have very small numbers printed on them. On the exhaust stems only, 72 is the hollow sodium filled stems while 75 is the upgraded solid stems. You really REALLY want the 75 numbered exhaust stems!

And get an automatic electric bilge pump installed... takes about 3 hours, but is totally worth the peace of mind there are sooo many ways these watercraft can sink and you won't know it's taking on water with the seats on it till it's already pretty full of water!

Thanks guys. Long story short is the supposed rebuilding dealer is outta business. I did actually verify. So no paper work i got it for 5800. Gonna rebuild sc myself. Just to be sure of it. Any suggestion of a good place to order the kit online? No dealers near me now. And im assuming that the updated washers come in kit? And now im a little nervous about reading about the valves?

And yesterday i bought rxt#2. Craigslist. This one is a cream puff. 60 hrs. And this is a 2007 All mainteance paperwork included. 5500 with trailer. Bought if from a divorced 60 yr old women. Im stoked to play with these bad boys. So arent my kids. Gonna be a fun summer for sure.

Thanks michael about the bilge suggestion. Looks like i better get a couple of those. Any certain ones you suggest for a pwc?

i got my kit from 4techperformance... i actually sent my supercharger to jerry.. he come to me highly recommended and is very fair with rebuild prices.. and yes the new updated SC rebuild kits come with the metal washers..

Man be careful these things are not "toys" they cost alot to fix after they've been run into a dock or driven up onto a concrete ramp! Eeeek!

Pull the SC and send it to Jerry at GreenHulk for rebuilding if you aren't sure. He already has the correct kits and only charges a little extra for the labor if you buy the kit from him... and he's been doing it for years and I've NEVER heard of ANY complaints about his turn-around or the SC's he's rebuilt for people! You do not want to screw this thing up, if it flys apart it does so inside of your engine and makes a mess of things.

I got my Automatic 600gph SeaSense bilge pump from Academy Sports and Outdoors for like ~$30, I already had a lighted rocker switch for the manual mode operation (switch mounted in glove box, only used to confirm pump is operational before setting out from the docks since I can hear the pump motor when it turns on... wire the Automatic line directly to your battery so it's always on in Auto mode!). I plummed it to dump out beneath the rear seat handle, such that it shoots water out from between the open spaces in the handle but is otherwise invisible. You got to find a 90 degree thru-hull fitting if you want to keep your rear storage tray... be sure to measurre 3X before cutting the hole in your hull for that fitting, there are no do-overs in this! LOL!

Thanks for the concern Michael. Lol. We like to play hard. My kids both ride and race f1000 Cat snowmobiles at 14 and 15 yrs old. Our family have all been on the water and boating since kids. Have owned previous PWC's. We all ride with great respect to our machines and to others. Heck, my Daughter has been at the helm of my 35' twin screw performance boat since 12 ( with me on bard of course). She can dock that thing in winds better than 90 percent of the adults in our marina on a calm day.

Ok Im done bragging. I do like the thought of having Jerry rebuilding the SC. Can you please post some contact info for him? Ive always maintained my own stuff since thats kinda what i do for a living but if i can save my self some ass ache for a little more money than the kit? Why not? Thanks Again.
