getting rid of excess oil in cylinder

Had my 1999 challenger 1800 into the shop in the spring because the one engine would not turn over. Make a long story short the crank seal is leaking and allows excess oil into the clinder. The mechanic said as long as I run it every week or so it would not build up. He also said to pinch off the oil line so when the boat was sitting the oil would not run into the cylinder. I have been pinching the line off but I was not doing it low enough so oil was still getting in. My fault. The engine will not turn over again. When I am turning the engine over to get rid of the excess oil how long should I turn it over each time. The mechanic said only very short bursts on the starter. How long should it take and when will I know that all the oil is out. This is only a problem on the port side engine. Engine runs fine other than this problem.

Thanks again for any help.

Pull the plugs. Put a towel over the engine. Crank it 10 seconds or so at a time. When minimal oil is coming out, put the plugs in and fire it up. It will smoke as it burns the oil off. Best place to let it run is the ramp or out for a ride. But short 1 minute runs at home are ok also.

Sounds good.

You can install a shutoff valve in the oil line. If you do so, hang the lanyard on it whenever you turn it off so you don't forget to turn it on.. It will run for years like that.

Thanks for that idea. I will pick up a shut off valve. I was pinching the main line just before the 2 filters at the top. I need to go lower though as pinching at the top is still letting to much oil in.

They also make a solenoid based valve that uses the DESS to turn it off and on.
No matter which way ou go, get the correct inside diameter. You do NOT want a smaller inside diameter...

Ok thanks. I will check into solenoid based valve. That will make it a lot easier.

Hey Joe.. do you have a link or item on the solenoid ?

Two members here at the site have them. I will have to do some searching for you. I am on my phone but I will give it a try right now.
