Gelcoat vs Paint

I purchased a used Sea Doo and the gelcoat is not in the shape I would like it to be in nor do I care for the colors so much. I have done some research about re-gelcoating vs painting and depending where you read, some say painting is great and others say only gelcoat. Has anyone every painted their ski and how was the outcome. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks ahead of time.

From the skis I've seen painted, gel coat is just a little more durable and easy to refinish if it does get scratched. That being said, I'm having mine painted this summer. I plan on having a lot of clear sprayed to ease my mind a little more about scratches

Have you been provided a price to paint?

I don't think my price would be a fair estimate for anyone else since I'm putting in a lot of the work myself and it's a family friend that owns the shop

Fair enough, do you know what paint you are going to use? Some type of marine paint?

Nope actually using automotive. I'm actually using the gm victory red from my truck
