I sent the email summarized below to a forum member with much knowledge about gauges but it doesn't look like he visits too often so I am posting here as well, hoping to get help and put this issue to rest once and for all. I became discouraged and haven't attempted to get it fixed but need to address.
As a reminder, 2008 gtx155 with 80 hrs. Had LCD cluster greyed out from sun heat exposure. Ordered brand new non programmed gauge from seadoo dealer online bc it was $450 vs $700 locally. Was referred to a local, mobile mechanic who said he could program gauge by marrying it to ecm. He has vast mechanical experience but in hindsight, his electrical expertise is seemingly not great. Anyway, he got the ski running but after he left, I realized about 2/3 of the data wasn't feeding. I called him and rather than fix it for free, he charged me again, saying it wasn't his fault that the gauge was not "flashed" by the dealership to tell the gauge it was be fitted to a seadoo gtx since the gauges are designed to fit a number of different toys. So, he took it to the seadoo dealership, had his friend flash the gauge and he reprogrammed it. I paid him again and thought it was fixed but realized it was now 2/3 functioning vs 1/3 but still not 100%. The numeric speed is not showing, only speed on the graph. Also, water temp not showing and the 3 alarms at the bottom don't appear to be working.
The mechanic blames a defective gauge but I have reason to believe that is not the case. What do you think I should do at this point? Take it to the local seadoo dealership and have them start over? Try to find a local guy willing to play with his candoo pro? Between the price of the gauge and having already paid the first mechanic twice, this has turned into an expensive lesson so hoping to get it done right this last time. Thank you
