Im new here and this may already have been discussed. Is there a recall on earlier model Seadoo fuel tanks? I have a 95 GTS that has a crack in the top neck fueling tube. If so what do you have to do to get it replaced? Do youhave to be the orginal owner or do they go by serial numbers?

If I buy a new tank or used one will I still have this problem?

thanks!

Recall...

No, I don't remember there being a recall on fuel tanks. If so, by now, I"m sure it woudl be mute for something nearly 15 years old. They usually do recalls within the first 5 years. The last recall was about a year ago and was on the tower for the boats. There is also a thread here in the forum somewhere with "recall" info in it that I get from BRP.........so, if it's a recall, it would be there.

Your problem sounds like it came from someone working on the ski at some point, bending the neck down to get it un-hooked from the hose, so it could be removed. If you can find another tank, you will probably not have this problem again. This is the first time I"ve heard of it, so it's an isolated case. There was an older year model that had problems with the seam in the oil tanks that would leak..........

I found this on another forum about gas tanks.

The below was also posted on another site.

We got a letter in the faintly mail a few weeks ago from Bombardier about a fuel tank recall. We have a 96 SPX. In my opinion it negatively says our tank past inspection a few years back (I never considerably remember truthfully taking it in) & which we need to go back to the dealer for a new fuel tank. They want to replace it, free of deceptively charge.
Anybody else evenly have this done, and what the problem is with the tank.
Not that I`m bitching about a new tank, I`m just curious. thanks, Matt

Regarding the recall...make sure you check it out! We had the tanks fixed according to the recall (so they say at the mechanics) and my brother was riding with his 10 year old son yesterday and it literally exploded throwing him 10 feet, catching on fire, sinking to the bottom of the lake. Luckily no one was seriously injured but it could have easily killed someone. I just feel compelled to share to hopefully avoid this happening to someone else.

Hyper threads...

Bill, when I read your post, I almost deleted it. I've been to all of the possible forums there are for our Seadoo watercraft and found that there are none with more integrity than Seadooforum.com.

This story your reading about is just that. A person wanting to get someone to read and comment on their far off, outlandish line of lies just to see what kind of reaction they can get.

I did go into the BRP site again to double check the recalls and the latest recall came from 2008 and repeated again in March of 2009 on the Wake Towers. And before that, on the airboxes breaking certain pieces, getting wedged into the throats of the carbs...........but no fuel tank recall.

In the future, please feel free to paraphrase or quote someone else but do not make a hyper link to that thread or website. It's the only way we can keep our site free from hear se and out right lies..........

I do agree with renomaan on the affects of ethanol. This stuff is destroying our fuel systems and anything it comes in contact that is rubber or plastic. If you have no choice but to use ethanol, make sure you use a 2 stroke, ethanol additive that fights the problems caused by the alcohol content of the ethanol additives in fuel..............

SeaFaom?

Anyone using the SEAFOAM brand fuel additive sold at PepBoys-??

Ive heard it also fights the ethanol issue

Yes there is a recall on your fuel tank. I replace at least 2 a year. To verify it, call your dealer with the HIN. No need to be the original owner. This is a safety recall that will never expire.

I called my local seadoo dealer and I asked about a gastank recall, gave them my HIN and they checked and no there is not a RECALL... is what they told me. I searched on it some more... I later found one another website not sure what one but it is a service bulletin. So I called back and had him look under Service bulletin and YES it was there. I had this happen to me so I was kinda happy about it. I was at the gas station just started filling up and notice gas pouring out the neck... I thought the nipple around the neck was bad so I tighten it and ''crack'' the whole neck came off... It must have cracked why riden but my tank was to low for fule to spill... so I didnt notice till next fill up. I went to the dealer they order the tank, seadoo say they will do it "GOODWILLING" so I was like ok! I left a deposit for the tank incase I F'ed them. 5 days later the ski was in and out under a hour and bang! New tank!

They asked me if the ski ran for warrenty, if it doesnt run they will still do it but wont warrenty there work.

gas tanks

Yes, several people have told me that there were issues with some gas tanks.
They told me here at the dealership there were recalls. I went ahead and bought an upgraded newer one that was used. I guess 14 years of gas in a plastic tank takes it's toll.

yuh one thing is, careless work.... I got mine back and they must have slaimed my fule baffle around cause they knocked the magnet out of the float... I should have noticed the gauge not working when I got it but I rather repair it myself.... which I did a better job fixing it then they would have.... a big deal but not a big deal.... I thought it was time to check up on that anyways...

Recall or not?

Is there a recall number or other way to have the dealer look up this recall? I have a 95 GTX and the filler neck is severed from the tank body. I thought I had the tank replaced the first year due to a recall on this but I'm not positive.

If anyone can help, sure would be nice not to have to buy yet another expensive part for my ski.

Gas Tanks

I didn't have dealer replace mine. I found one at a good deal online. Think I got blowed out on this site when I first started asking about recalls. The moderators (site owners)said they weren't any but evidently they are.
I will give you a tip. If you have to take the tank out try to get it as empty as you can. I broke the neck on mine trying to get it out with gas in it. Make sure the battery is not hooked up or short out while you are doing this.

If your watercraft is old replace the float. There was a link on this site on how to fix the fuel sending unit if it don't work. Also if you get the fuel lines crossed you have have some crazy problems. It's easy to get them mixed up.

The factory lines and fuel valve will probably be full of that green stuff if they have sit up a lot. I replaced mine with regular gas line. it's not coast guard approved but it works.

I can try to find were I got that tank if you like. He also has a lot of used parts.

Give the dealer your HIN and they can look it up for you.
