Fuse Issues

Hi after hitting a big wave last week my mpem 5amp fuse blew. I found it and changed it. Next day out on the lake t started the first time off the trailer and then blew again. I went to replace it and as soon as I put the new fuse in it again blew. I then put a 15amp fuse in and it didn't blew and I rode it all day. Is it safe to leave the 15 in and if not what could be wrong. Thanks for any input. I looked at other threads but none I found say anything about a different size fuse.

No, the 15amp fuse will allow your mpem to fry. Usually the mpem 5amp fuse blowing is a sign of a dead one. But since yours is working with the 15amp, its not blown yet, but will if that fuse is left in. Start by checking your rectifier output for over voltage. By the way what year and model is your ski? Other more knowledgeable members will need this info to help and you should list this info in your profile so that it shows up on any post you make.

I have a 1996 GSX. I read something about unplugging the 3 yellow wires at the rectifier, is that how I would go about testing it?

I also will test the stator by unplugging the plug in front of motor? But One test i dont know how to do is testing the mpem, I read to unplug the mpem and test the read and black wires for a short but how do I test for a short and how do i unplug the mpem, thanks.

Im not really sure how to go about testing the charging system since I am still fairly new to the seadoos and would hate to give you bad or wrong info. Try searching the forums, you will need some time to sort through it all, and if still at a dead end try pm'ing some of the moderators. Be sure you do your research first and are respectful to them, they have forgotten more than I will ever be able to know.
