fuel gauges not working; '97 GTI, 2000 RX

As I posted earlier, the machines ran good; no complaints. I did realize both of the fuel gauges don't work, though. However, there seems to be a host of posts about non-working fuel gauges here in the forum, plus I assume the Service Manuals will have trouble-shooting and fixes for them.
 
ya, you can pull the sender, and ohm test it, it will take longer to pull than to test.

if it fails the ohm test, then you can eliminate the float ($16 ebay) as the problem, which would then be the fuse. usually its the float, since they tend to sit in really nasty gas sometimes for years at a time.
 
For the hassle factor I may just pick up a couple new units. Reviewing the ohm testing procedure now in the manual...

For shiets and grins, I just disconnected and then jumpered the connector and the fuel gauges on both went to full. Tomorrow I'll pull the baffles and see what there is to see.
