Greetings all,
My boat is in need of a new fuel gauge. The float apparently is fine but the gauge is not working. The shop said it would cost over $200 for a new one. Does anyone know where I can source one or do any of the dealers in the states have one they could sell me? I'm located in Ottawa Ont.
Thanks
Hawk

When we purchased our Challenger last May the gauge didn't work. Our son found a thread on this forum that detailed trouble shooting the issue and fixed it. If I remember correctly it could be 4 different problems: 1) bad gauge - this is tested at the tank and the gauge was operational. 2) stuck float - pulled the unit from the tank and it moved up and down the entire length of the unit. 3) float filled with gas - the float had a tiny amount of fluid in it, but it still would float properly. 4) blown "fuse" - this wasn't the typical fuse I pictured. It is inside of the sending unit in the tank. That was our problem. You have to cut the tube open and "weld" the area. The forum post our son found was very detailed and after following the instructions our gauge was operational. I believe the cost was one cable tie that was used as his welding rod.

Are you sure it is the gauge? I am willing to bet it is the fuse in the float baffle. Unplug the gauge connector at the float and short across the terminals. Power on of course and see if gauge moves. If it does then it is not the gauge that is broken. Search forum for repair procedure it is quite simple, took me less than 1 hour and cost $0....

I had the boat in for my winterizing and asked the dealer to check the gauge, they diagnosed it as the gauge and said he shorted out the terminals and it did not move. I will go by what they say and see if I can get a gauge online.
Thanks

Ok. I would double check anyways and make sure the power is on and you push the start button to see if it moves. It will not read if you do not push the start button. Without the lanyard in place as you do not want to start the engine.

Good luck!

nope, it was my first summer with it and i bought it with the gauge not working, thought i could fix it myself...
