I have a 1996 sea doo bombardier spx and need to find the fuel filter location. Where can I find the fuel filter?

Hi and welcome to the forum.

follow this link.... The part is #16. I would add an in-line fuel filter to be on the safe side.....on the line that leads to the carb(s).

click on "parts" on top of the page and then search as you need something.

For in-line filter....on home page scroll down until you see the "how to" section" then look for Dr Honda thread on adding an in-line fuel filter....easy to do. (if can't find it then scroll down a bit more until you see " thread "timeline" 1 day, week, etc, click on the arrow and click on "beginning"

open the hood, take out the storage bin, then look indside, it is mounted on the top of the hull infront of the steering

Can I clean the Carb filters (#22 in LouDoo's post) without disassembling the carb? If not, what parts will have to be replaced if I disassemble the carbs to gain access to these filters? How much disassembling is necessary?

if you remove the carbs to clean the internal filters (which is always a good thing to do), I would replace the base gaskets. A base gasket leaking air will cause a lean condition which could lead to a melted piston.

I'm working to remove the carbs, but don't know how to remove the throttle linkage (an adjustable length rod) that ties the carbs' throttle valves together. Also, I don' know how to take the throttle cable off the quadrant of the mag side carb. Any suggestions?

Thanks,
DogCatcher

This is really not that difficult, I'm going to try to explain it. Refer to the parts drawing.

On the throttle cable there are two nuts, loosen one of them. There is a notch on part no. 44, once the nut is loosened the throttle cable will slide out of the notch.

The throttle cable wraps around part no. 61 and ends in a small circular metal at the end of the cable, it goes through a hole in part. no. 61, kinda like a hand brake on a bicycle.

I'm having trouble explaining this, you might want to download a service manual. Since you are a premium member you can download one from this site.

LouDoo,

Thanks so much for the reply - what you said makes so much sense! Using the parts diagram, how is part 63 separated from part 61? Does it snap together and do I just need to pry it apart?

Thanks in advance!!

Wow, thanks for the compliment, I actually thought I explained it badly.

You don't need to remove part 63, just take both carbs. off together, if you want to remove it, it just snaps off, just wedge a screwdriver between parts 61 and 63 and apply just a little pressure.

BTW, I might be opening up a can of worms, but does your ski still have the grey tempo fuel lines?

yes, #63 will gently pry off of #61 and as Lou said there are barrell connectors on the end of the cables

Special thanks to Loudoo and bigjake. I have removed the carbs, cleaned the filters installed an inline filter and reinstalled the carbs. The SeaDoo runs great. I appreciate the great help!

Yes I have the gray tempo fuel lines. When I get some time (I have a housefull of guest that are spending time on the SeaDoo and needed it running ASAP), replacing the fuel lines will be my next project. Until then the inline filter will have to makedo. By the way, the internal filters were majorly clogged.

For reference, the set screws that lock the choke arms to the cable are 2.0 mm hex heads.
