Fuel contaminated

I have 1994 SP with less than 15 hours on rebuilt motor. Last year machine wouldn't stay running in lake (but it would start on the trailer) and carb was rebuilt by dealership but still didn't run. This year I replaced all grey fuel lines and fuel selector valve and drained and cleaned gas tank, and now it runs fine but starts hard. I'm concerned there still maybe some crap in carb. I want to avoid tearing apart carb. Can anyone recommend an additive besides stabil that would help clear/dissolve any remaining junk?

Nope. If the carbs need cleaned... they got to come apart.

Also... think about this. If you put in a solvent that is strong enough to dissolve deposits... what do you think it will do to the rubber diaphragms in the carbs?? (eat them too) Also... since you are relying on a very small amount of oil in the fuel to lube the engine... what do you think will happen to that oil with a strong solvent? Yup... it will keep it from doing it's job, and kill the engine.

Unless if you want to chance destroying an engien... don't get lazy.

Good advice

Thanks for the reply. Very logical. The location of those carb mounting nuts is what's making me lazy.

I understand... but a 94 SP should be easy. it has the more modern carb. Now... a 93 is a bastard. I know exactly what to do, and it still takes me 20 minutes to get it off.

Good luck

Replace the needle and seat while you have the carb apart, should help with the starting issues...

Air in fuel lines

I've had it on the lake now for 5 days and it's been running well without carb rebuild...used some stabil-like additive made by briggs and straton for 2 cycles. Yesterday I was tidying-up new fuel lines with zip ties and noticed there was air pocket in the one line...and machine wouldn't start without holding throttle wide open. The air in the line is bad right? Could I have too much slack in the new lines or a leak? I cut all of them about an inch longer than the originals. Internet connection is intermittent here in northern wisc.
