Hi Guys.....I previously posted on a start problem with my GSXL. This thing would spin over about once every 10 trys with the start button. I traced the problem to a voltage drop out of the MPEM to the start solenoid.
Now please bear with me guys!!! I got this ski for nothing and dont want to put any money into it if the motor is hurt or something....I just wanted to get it running.
So here is what I have done. I ran a 12 volt wire from the aft junction boss to a seperate switch and spiced it into the solenoid 12 volt wire with a diode to prevent back feeding the MPEM with 12 volts. The thing will spin like crazy now every time, so thats working. Then I found out that if you dont use the start switch you get no ignition, so I spliced into that circuit to make continuity when using my remote start switch.
Well, I got the thing running today and the motor sounds good....unhurt so far. The only problem is it will run for 30 seconds or so and just quit. When it does this I can check and the spark is gone! Mess with the DESS post fob and I get it back and it starts back up.I put another E-bay DESS post in it and it acts exactly the same with both of them.
I never touched the DESS post fob while it was running...it just loses the signal somehow I guess.
So my question to the experts is....do I need a new MPEM or is there a way to keep the DESS signal going and turn the thing into a lanyard kill like my early XP's?
I'm willing to buy an MPEM now that I have heard the motor run and its not knocking and raising cane, but I am the troubleshooting type and really want to be certain that the MPEM is the fault!
Does anyone know anything about the DESS circuit or what it's doing as far as grounds or power? I have the wiring diagram but it shows nothing as far as internal function.
Thanks for the help everyone and please let me know your thoughts on this....its driving me crazy!
