Flushing Question

Do you guys flush your engines after every use? Also when flushing, i have to start my motor and run down a dock to turn the water on..is it ok that the motor runs for like 10 seconds before and after turning water on and then off?

Yes, that is the way you are supposed to do it. Rule of thumb, don't ever turn on the water when the ski is OFF. You will be okay for a short amount of time with the water off and the ski running. Turning the ski on and off will always be the first and last thing you do

is flushing still necessary in fresh water? i have only been turning on each engine for a few seconds to let it blow out the river water... i haven't been hooking up a hose to flush

If you are in fresh water... and it's coming out after each day's use... no, you don't' have to flush it.

If... you sucked sand, or grass into the pump... I would recommend flushing.


If... you run in salt water (or water with high minerals) I would recommend flushing after every use, and use a product like "Salt away" once in a while.


Going back to the original post... "Running down a dock to turn the water on"?? Is the boat still in the water? I'm assuming no... but I figured I would ask.


Personally, if you are going to run back and forth... I would go to a hardware store, and buy an in-line ball valve to put on the end of your hose. That way you can turn the hose on... but still be able to turn the water on and off while at the boat.

It's just bad...someone used the term "waterlock" or something like that..it will mess up your engine.

If your only taking seconds to turn your water on, it shouldn't hurt. The water has to fill up the exhaust before it can dump into the cylinders. The procedure calls for us to start the motor first, then turn on the water. Vice versa when we shut it down.

After I disconnect, I usually start my motor for a quick second to blow out any remaining water in the tuned pipe. You'll always have a little water in the muffler.

For proper practice, I would start the motor first to make sure you don't get distracted and dump water in your cylinders.......:cheers:
