Took my 96 GSX out for the first time today. was idling fine, but pulled back on the throttle and it make this strnge shaking type noise (hard to describe) would only go about 20 mph. my first thought was, damn got to take it back and clean the carbs.

i idled along for a few minutes and kept trying the throttle. about the 10th time it took off and ran fine.

it was running perfect at the end of last season. gray fuel lines were replaced and carbs cleaned 2 years ago. It sat for the winter with half tank og gas with STABIL in it and I topped off the tank before taking it out. ( i know it is better to top off the tank for the winter )

I continued to ride about 30 minutes several stop and goes to WOT and not another problem, it ran great. Idles about 1400 RPM and jsut under 7000 RPM at WOT.

So then i figured must have been dirt in the fuel line that worked it's way thru but it seemed different with that shaking noise. Then I thought there must have been a piece of seaweed or something in the impeller that worked it's way out. It's on a ramp in my backyard now, not enough clearance to pull the grate off and verify nothing stuck in there, I'd have to take it back to the ramp and put it back on the trailer.

So the question is, since it is now running fine do I just chalk it up to a piece of dirt in the fuleline or something was caught in the impeller and now out and forget about it unless it happens again, or are there some checks I should do?

I'd say you had something sucked up, into the pump, and it finally shot out. A old shopping bag will do what you are describing.

As long as it's running OK now... you should be fine.

great, thanks! that's what I figured but always good to have confirmation from the experts.
