I say do it right and get that soon to be rusty bicycle crap of your performance craft. (insert smiley face here to make me not sound like such a prick) I just think in addition to it not functioning correctly it looks rigged. I'm not bashing here but encouraging.

LOL, thanks for saying what I was thinking. If you want to go ghetto, just rotate the dang stock thumb throttle. Or lie and wait and search every night for a good used one on Ebay.

As seen on JSG's 99SPX, I do believe you need to molest the bar pad

Is that a GSXR in the backround?

LOL yes that's a 07 gsxr 600 which is now replaced by a 2011 gsxr 750

Matt and racerxxx that hurts. Ill admit you guys defidently know your stuff but this is not ghetto if done the way I did it. This install is missing a key step. The black plastic collar needs to be nipped off. Be careful when doing this dont cut your cable. I feel like I dont have to say that but I will. Next take the adjustable collar off of your bmx or mountain bikes brake lever and insert it over your cable and screw it into your ebay lever. Now you have no slop and its adjustable up top and not by the carbs.

This worked out perfect for me and had no problems what so ever, never had to adjust the cable by the carbs and did I achieved full throttle no problem. Pay attention to my photo it has the brushed aluminum piece where yours is just a cable. Once you do this your golden.

This is what I ordered and what you need. Obviously not 10 of them but it is a 10mm fitting on that throttle lever. But this nip the plastic fitting off and install as mine is pictured and you will love it I promise. And it wont be ghetto.

LOL,
Thanks guys- That pix is just a mockup, not an implementation. I will have an adjuster and clean cable path. I guess you missed my point. I was testing to see if I could get full throttle. I am not looking to Ghetto it. But if there are other clean options, I will entertain them. Or just forget the entire thing. The point of this thread is an inexpensive finger throttle. I know you can do it for ~$90 (with all adapters) but I was looking for a clean lower cost solution. I actually really like the look of that Tekro throttle. Each his own. Anyway, not sure what I will do, but I will post it. And if I do it, it wont be ghetto or have mouse ears on it.

I get the low cost. You need the $13 adapter, you can't cleanly rig your way around it. That's why just about every aftermarket throttle lists a seadoo adapter. It's never "cheap" to upgrade. I just don't think this is one area to mess around in, especially with family involved if they're driving. The pic below is my ebay score, it was bought for $45.05 shipped off ebay back in 2013, it bolted on and I didn't have to tweak the cable at all. Like I keep saying don't be in a hurry and the good stuff will come to you, you also need to search for it every day.

And just to clarify for you guys, "Ghetto" was in reference to the OEM thumb throttle flipped around to use as a trigger, not your specific set ups. And since I'm catching enough crap on all these triggers lately I'll make sure to keep my opinion out of them. Just what ever you do make sure it's safe.

Ruskeyjdm Did your Tektro throttle end up giving you full throttle? I like the look and those are pretty cheap.

No,unfortunately it was only about 3/4 throttle
I went back to stock on the GSX, after I tried to bend it and broke the cheap metal :)

I have the same finger throttle on my xp and I love it. The bicycle levers seem to miss the forward sweep on the lever that prevents full throttle from opening.

Part of the benefit of that GT manufacturing throttle is that the axis which the arm pivots on is on the opposite side of the handlebars increasing the amount the cable can be pulled out.

Most all finger throttles pivot points are on the front side.

Exactly. To get the movement you really need something like that. Too bad they are not in business any more. But then again, I am probably too cheap to buy one new if they were. I am going to get an adapter and mess some with the one I got. It is really close to working but I am not convinced that it has a long enough pull on it, but I'm going to try it out. I can always ebay it off later.

Against my best interest........

Look at the bike lever, the perch is freakishly long this giving the lever more throw. Look at the ski triggers, they're angled even though the fulcrum off on the front side, they need that angle and also a swept lever to get the swing so it doesn't burry into the grip. But not having the barrel adjuster is killing your slack length. What I like about the GT is that I can run it with one or two fingers and the back of my palm is on the back side of the bars. With the bike lever off have to guess that your hand is maybe a little closer to the top of the bars due to the length of the perch and the angle of the lever. It all just seems very far off the bar.

Yep yep, the perch on the bike lever allows the full movement of travel to get WOT and down back to idle. But yeah you will be stressing hand. trying to get fingers to reach it out.

Its all up to each owners preference. If you are on a budget. Try the bike lever. Grease the pivot point. Tinker with it and maybe swap out later to PWC finger throttle.

No worries Racer  That is what these forums are about! I did a sh!tty job explaining myself originally. Bottom line is that these require about 1.15" of pull which wont be found in a bike type lever system. At least not in a system that you can reach with your fingers. So it requires a PWC (seadoo perhaps) specific throttle. Therefore- more money. I am getting the adapter and see if I can get it to squeak out what I need. It will be close.

^^^ dang that was a steal. Im not a big fan of them but cheap none the less. The adjustable Riva one is the one Ive fell in love with.

Well I finally got the blosion adapter. It is much better but I still am not quite getting full throttle. I still have my rogue grips on. It is close but not quite full open. Need another 1/8" or so. But I am going to lake test it to see if that really knocks anything off the top end. Looks good though. I cut my own cover end cap out of delrin. Pia.

Ok I tested the setup shown above. It is not quite getting full throttle. Speed was right at 50MPH gps. I really like it though. I found another one on ebay that is a billet aluminum one. It came for $50 with the adapter. (he now is charging $8 extra with adapter). So I put this on my other GTX. I fits great and I am only about 1/8" from full throttle. I may adjust the cable a little more and increase the water idle to 1600 rpm and I think I will get full throttle. I am using the ruffian grips on this ski (they feel really nice) and they are smaller diameter than the Rogue grips on the other ski.

I'll likely be going back to the thumb throttle. As much as I hate it I can tell I'm not getting a full pull. Fortunately everything is still there for me to go back. Looks like I might need a new throttle cable anywho. It's starting to fray JUST a bit on the carb side.

If your not quite getting full throttle you might need to get a pair of odi grips that are less thick, they make them iv seen them but i have been having trouble trying to find a thiner pair that are 120mm in stead of 130mm.
