after a year looking for the right XP and a good deal, I finally bought one. 1999 SEADOO XP LTD. Super clean with a BRAND NEW motor from SBT. Owner did the oil pump delete with the new motor. Has a new seat and always maintained, a few questions:

1. I hear mix reviews about SBT, are they good motors or NO?
2. Is the OIL PUMP delete mod a DEF. MUST? since now I have to mix gas with oil
3. What is the little cowl hood called on the very top? NOW the big one that gives you access to the engine, but the little one, the tab is broken so I need that new piece

go here:

to find your parts (don't enter your email, just hit go)

1. yes
2. no, the oil pump is very reliable, and I would hate to have to premix. I've owned 5 sea-doos now, never had a failure, and if it does fail, it's designed to fail 'wide open' so you get over oiled
3. it's called a part? lol, find it on the diagram, then use google once you have the part number.

I have an 02 XP and it's more fun than crack cocaine.

1) I hear mixed reviews regarding SBT (Hit or miss) Most issues with rebuilt or re-manufactured engines are due to improper break-in. Take the time to follow the break-in procedures to the "T" and it should server you for many years. I have a '97 XP and got 443 hours out of the original engine before having to rebuild. I am in the break-in period right now with my rebuilt engine.

2) Use the Oil injector system. However, mix 50:1 for the first tank during break-in along with the oil injection system.

3) Nothing to add to previous reply.

Hi,

I would contact the previous owner, see if he still has the parts from the oil pump, and if possible reinstall the pump. The tank is probably still in the ski as it is needed to lubricate the rotary valve.

I have a 96XP, tons of fun, it runs great but needs some cometic work, which I'll do over the winter.

Check out this recent thread on the X4. http://www.seadooforum.com/showthread.php?40696-The-X4-Thread

951's have reeds not a rv, so during the pre-mix conversion they may have gotten rid of the tank.

and its never really the pump that fails, it is the lines that run to the jugs that crack and bust, thus lossing oil to that jug(s). i would recommend the oil injection. my gts is pre-mix and i wish that i had stuck with the injection. you use twice as much oil, foul plugs quicker, and you smoke going into the dock at idle. which really kills your "cool" factor.

So you guys are saying to put the oil pump back in?? How do I do that and what all does it take? The new motor has 10 hours on it so does that mean I'm too late for the proper break in period or no? Also since there isn't an hourmeter, how do I know how many hours are on it?

What tank, let me know what I should ask the previous owner

Just asked him and he doesn't have it?

1. What exactly do I need?
2. How much will it all cost from ebay used or if something needs to be new?
3. Hard to install, what does it take?
4. Do I really even need this or can I stick my mixing?
5. Is one better than the other way or is the oil pump just easier?

An oil tank off Ebay should run you between 40-60 bucks plus shipping. I would assume that u also need the sensor that goes in the tank. I just picked up a 97 XP tank for $29 off Ebay with no sensor or cap. That included shipping. Check your harness to see how the sensor wiring was removed. Oil injection cant be beat in terms of lubrication for your motor. It feeds the motor as it needs it. Just the right amount all the time. With premix youll always be doing the math and spending alot more on oil.

so the only downsides of premix is more oil and more math, is that about it? But technically the premix won't hurt anything in the long run? Is this a big job though to put back? Also, how do you know hours when there's no hourmeter?

The oil injection is not difficult to re install. You will need to look at some diagrams to see how its run. If u sign up as a premiere member youll have access to the diagrams for you ski. It sounds like your mind is pretty much made up but you may want to ask some others about the oil inject vs. premix.
As far as knowing the hours on your ski, you can take it to any Seadoo dealership and have it hooked up so they can pull the info off your mpem. There is a fee and each dealership varies.

I'm not trying to tell you what to do, but if it were me I would put this project on the back burner. While I would never remove the injection system, its not going to hurt anything to run 40:1 premix.

Summer is here, go have fun, its going to take time to round up all the parts, reinstall everything, blead & test. Sounds like a winter project to me.

Hi guys im new on here. i just bought a 99 seadoo xp limited and the battery keeps draining. put a new one on and it keeps draining more or less straight away. it will start once maybe then if u turn it off it wont start again on the battery alone you have to put jump leads on it. can anyone help me with it please. cheers

i wish i had a dollar for everytime i said this but: DO NOT JUMP A SEADOO. you can toast your mpem(the brain) which is a $200-$500 "oops." is your vts working? that causes most battery drainage problems. you should start a new thread for help on this.

wont be doing that again. thanks for the info. yes vts works fine when running. the clocks arent working either???

Yea that's what I'm going to do, so its 1 cup of oil for every gallon of gas? only seadoo oil?

How big is the gas tank and will it hurt anything if its a little less or more oil or gas, does it have to be perfect?

pretty much spot on: too much oil and you'll run to lean, foul plugs faster and run you motor hotter than it should. to little and its not getting the protection it should.

I think its 4oz. to the gal., check the oil bottle to be sure. If you error go a little over, I think the tank is about 10gal.

Unless you walk out your back door to the lake, this is what I would do. Stop for gas soon after you are headed for the lake, stop at an even gal. amount, add 4 oz. per gal. (or whatever the oil container says). By the time you get to the lake it should be thoroughly mixed.

It's really not a big deal, I'm showing my age here, but I can remember when you had to run premix for outboards, while some docks had premix, many did not and you had to mix it yourself.

Well the way I see it, its pretty much 1 quart of oil for a full tank, I figure put 5 gallons of gas, stop, add 1/2 quart of oil, put another 5 gallons of gas and then add the remaining 1/2 quart of oil, agreed?

I guess that's right, sure sounds like a lot of oil. I use my ski a lot, every weekend, and only go through 1-2gals. of oil all summer. I use like 2tanks of fuel every weekend.

Is this right guys????
