ok , so i want to hear from you what would work best on my faded 98 speedsters fiberglass.
i am tempted on some auto stuff i have but it is mainly for auto paint. i have seen a lot of stuff out there and i dont want to waste my time or money!

so if you have any input.... bring it!

thanks!

In a nut shell...Wash teh surface with soap and water, fine rubbing compound, then clean the surface again...3 light coats of wax, with generous portions of elbow grease. Consider it brung.

did i mention....not waste my time!!!:ack:
polish wax wax wax , seems like mr. miagi training (karate kid din't do well after all that "waxing" any way!)
there has to be an easier, faster way!
anyone

Pay someone else to do it? Thats kinda the only way. A Buffer will help.

Seems as though you wasted your own time and everyone elses by asking the original question. 1998 Faded fiberglass......lots of:
1. Elbow grease
2. Money to pay someone else

You ask then disrespect someone trying to help???

Karl is a very very well respected member here. I don't know how many countless times he has helped me, I think an appology is in order. If you ask a question and someone responds don't dis them b/c it is not the answer you wanted. Obviously there may be different opinions but maybe you should have made that more clear in your post and not wasted Karl's time. Are you looking for an easy way to polish your boat?? Please if it was easy wouldn't everyones boat be shiney & new looking?? Is there an easy way to detail your car....no thats why you pay someone to do it or spend an afternoon doing it yourself. Lesson learned, lifes tough, deal.

Just for the record....I have 30 Years paint experience as a Certified PPG Re-finisher. I have owned over 40 Show condition vehicles that I built from the ground up, as I own a Custom Vehicle Shop... There isn't a easy way to cut corners and get a Professional job, except some labor to do it. Here's an easy solution...get your wallet and go to any Marine Store and tell them your problem....they'll sell all kinds of gimmick, quick fixes to get your money. :ack:

Don't we all wish our boats, cars could wax themselves? What a perfect world this would be. There isn't any miracle spray on, wash off to a perfect finish products out there. Compound with a rotary buffer will work wonders. If your finish isn't too bad, an orbital buffer does a decent job. As mentioned, follow up with a good wax. There are plenty of products out there for boats. A good half day of waxing will get you the results you crave. Thats not really much to ask of yourself to protect your investment. If you don't want to do it, pay someone or sell the boat. It takes a little bit of work keeping a boat nice but not over-whelming. Bring it to me and I'll do it for you for a nominal fee.

first of all, i am NOT apologizing to anyone since no disrespect was directed at all.

karl, if you felt i disrespected you, please let me know, but i can tell you now that was not my intention.

seems like people need to have a lighter sence of humor!

i as well have been in the automotive (customizing) industry for about 22 years and i am a rep for an automotive company. in the past i have come across some easier way of doing things with great results (not pro results) but reasonable.

i assumed that fiberglass gel coating needs different procedures (reason for my question). and also this is my first boat.

Man it would seem if you are so experienced what would you need this place for?????? And yes it was disrepectful apparently I and also a few others felt that way so appology accepted. Well being your first boat try attempting to listen to a person on the forum that has over 9000 posts which I assume are responses to questions similar to yours that don't involve a smart a$$ response. If it was in good humor you may need to check your reference book of bad jokes because apparently it fell right in there. Welcome to the forum........:) Also if we had a light sense of humor it would have been fine but that was not funny nor humorous just un-called for and in poor taste. This isn't to be a battle royal but if multiple people even the respondee has a bad taste in his mouth then obviously it was in bad judgement on your part. Maybe we don't understand your humor but post more than 8 times before you throw out a response like that, no one here knows you from a hole in the wall, look at it from that perspective. I expect a novel response but all I am saying is this forum is great and has saved me time and $$$ so if you are looking for a different response try wording things differently so as to not disrespect a top expert. Karl is awesome and puts lots of time into helping others for free, just looking out for whats best.

Thank you looking forward to your nasty reply

Ok I missed the sense of humor part...Here's the deal, if you ask a question of merit, I will answer your question with whatever knowledge I have. There are other MODERATORS on here that don't answer many threads from NON paid or NON "Premium Members". I spend between 2-6 hours in this forum a day,7 days a week, reviewing posts and answering about 1/3 of what I read, if I have the information you need. I reply to about 40 to 100 posts plus about 20 PM's a day in season...so who's wasting who's time?...oh yeah, all moderators volunteer here for FREE...we get paid nothing to come in here and answer threads because we want to help out other members looking for solutions and save them money. All the Moderators have specific talents from experience in different areas. You'll find in the essence of time, I post directly to the point and don't write essays about your answer, as other moderators do. I have a great sense of humor, and welcome all members to come in here and have a good time posting and communicating back and forth. My skin isn't made of paper and I have no problems with a mis communication of terms. This forum is a friendly place and verbal abuse isn't allowed to be used or tolerated. If you don't understand any solution you receive, don't be sarcastic, just ask for a better understanding.

As to your problem, If you have background in the refinish area, there are other solutions that require a different level of skill. I assume nothing and I won't suggest you do something that might cause damage or harm (power buffing / polishing) to you or your seadoo. You can't get in too much trouble using fine compound and waxing , except a sore arm from the labor involved. I hand wax my 200speedster in and out, about every month which takes about 6 hours to complete. It looks like showroom condition all the time.

seadoo square pants , keep waiting for the nasty response. i am not that type of person. simply said.

karl , i will make sure i am more direct and simple with my terminology to avoid confusion, and i will keep my humor to myself!

sorry, for any feelings hurt.

Tried KustomKarl's method

I tried Kustom Karl's method yesterday to replace my afterwork workout and it really paid off. I first used turtle wax rubbing compound on the really, really dull yellow lower hull, then removed that with a terry cloth all by hand. Then I hand waxed and hand buffed three coats of car wax on, then i used a mirror polish and hand buffed that too. I was a heck of a work out, but the results were worth it..I put up a picture, but it is hard to tell the actual shine from it.. Thanks KustomKarl!

Yeah, Iv've got to do the top of mine..seems harder to get a shine out of the white parts of the boat, and the person who had mine before must have left it out in the sun for ever because it is bad faded.. the only other option woulfd be to take it to a detail shop and pay the price.. I would have done that, but i figured this was a good way to get a workout in.. so just look at it that way...

Whats good for the white surface??

I wonder if anyone on here knows a good product designed to revitalize white gelcoat..the method I used on the bottom just isn't having the same effect as on the colored surface..I don't know what the guy before me was thinking..must have left it in direct sunlight with no covers cause the seats all had to be redone also..

Oh I've got plenty of elbow grease on hand! HAHA:rofl:

That sucks. Mine still looks shiny for bein 11 years old. The red hatch just needs to be buffed out. I think I might do it over the winter.

Yeah basically the guy I got it from, bought a 2008 and just needed to get rid of this one.. one thing though is the engines are in tip top shape with annual pro. services, just the guy was extrememly wealthy, so this was just another toy for him, and probably just left it out in the elements with the thought of I 'll just get another when this one gets old...i guess... i've never been in that situation if you know what I mean..
