Where the exhaust manifold meets the pipe there is a rubber gasket inset in the manifold and i also have a solid gasket for that same connection. Are both these gaskets to be used simultaniously? I dont remember noticing when taking it apart and as an auto mechanic it is not someting i see done on cars ever. also my squish gap is right up at 2.25 to 2.3mm and the max spec for a 951 is 2.3mm i belive. Is it normal to be right on the edge of this spec?

Thanks all for the great help here!

Is the rubber gasket you speak of the one that wraps around the joint? I believe this was a recall part, water leaked from there into carbs.

nope, there is a gasket that is rubber and pushs into a milled slot in the exhaust manifold much like a valve cover gasket on a car. But there is also a flat gasket cut out of standard gasket material that came with the top end rebuild kit.

Not sure what craft you are working on but all the 951's I have worked on have only had the "paper" type gasket.
Not sure on the o-ring.
Is it a DI model? I have only played with the carb'd models.

the 01-02 use a rubber gasket and a rubber surround.
98-00 use a paper gasket.

the exhaust manifold will have a recessed area for the rubber gasket, or be flat for a paper one.

excellent, thats exactly what i was wondering didnt figure there was two gaskets there, and they didnt give me the rubber gasket which i need.
