Engine temperature?

Today, while on ski, I noticed engine temperature to be around 65 degrees fahrenheit on the info gauge. the lake temperature was 74 degrees . Should my ski be running that cold or is something amiss. I recently had an issue of running hot, over 100, after sucking something up and losing thrust, I had to tow it home after that incident since I could not clear what ever it was. Today the obstruction seemed to clear. ( its been sitting for two weeks on floating dock) the tell tale tube was blocked with what looked like styrofoam so I cleared it and all is well with the exception of the engine running very cold. so my question is what is my engine temperature supposed to be and if 65 is too cold, how to adjust. Ski is a 96 gtx. thanks for help in advance

Your INFO gauge does not display engine temp. It only warns you if it is overheating by sounding the alarm and flashing light.

The 65 degrees fahrenheit you saw was the outside air temp (E-TEMP stands for enviroment temp not engine temp).

Thank you all for your responses. That makes more sense. Dont know what led me to believe is was for engine temp..

on the other hand it would be nice to relocate that sensor to somewhere on the engine for a temp indication if the number on the guage can go high enough

Put the tip of the sensor in some water and slowly heat it up, see how high it will go. If it can go higher, maybe you can pick up a temp sensor from a skidoo. (487. 583, 657 rotax) It should screw right into same threads as the overheat sensor. (maybe have to make a "T" so both sensors can be used?

I would just do an after market one, however since these are open loop and do not use thermostats, you are going to vary quite a bit.

My 951 seems to run faster when I'm in 60 degree vs 80 degree water. I've considered enlarging my cooling system to run the engine a hair cooler in hopes of better performance. The closed loop thermostat controlled 4 strokes should always run at the same temp.

I was nosing in some of the modes on my Doo. As I was riding I periodically checked the engine temperature reading. For the most part it read 82°F. Is that normal? I figured that would be a bit low but I don't know.

Edit: Nevermind. Found my book and see that it reads water temp and exterior temp.
