Couldn't find opinion as to what point you get core replacement.
I have two 717 engines that I'm trying to decide route to fix and hoping for opinions.
I'm out $950 for the two ski's and trying to salvage it and be able to keep them another 15 years.
Options are as usual.
#1
SBT core replacement for $745 one year warranty VS $995 two year warranty.
I do not think they are worth it. Some swear buy them other have nothing but horrors with them.
One ski I got has a SBT from 2008.
I have to see if their crank is rebuildable b/c it may be welded.
That will change price to New/Remanufactured crank for $430 vs rebuild my own for $269 in other option.
#2
FullBore for $950 with one year warranty.
They rebuild your existing engine.
I spoke to lady there which was very nice and answered all my questions.
I need to replace the brass RV gear which is free in a core replacement but since they rebuild your own engine I thought there would be an additional charge for it.
She said no.
Also, since SBT engine piston failed it pitted the head pretty bad but she said they usually can fix it and would not be a problem.
The other thing was if I had a welded crank from SBT. Can/could it be rebuilt and she said at the moment if I did it, it could be done but it depended on availability.
#3
Buy remanufactured crank for the $430 plus top end end kit $285.
(FullBore has special they hone jug to piston and send it back with gaskets)
The RV gear I'll have to buy for $60-$80 bucks. I think I need to replace the springs??

Try something new :banghead:
There are two other sites that pop up on goggle for core replacement.
Company A offer a 2 year warranty for $900
or
Company B $700 for a one year parts only warranty.
So, here are starting totals in order of most expensive:
#1 Full Bore at $950. Only One year warranty. It's your engine not core.
#2 SBT is at $745 or $995. Could be first but they offer one year and two warranty
#3 Company A at $900
#4 Me Building at $~800
#5 Company B at $700 with one year parts warranty.
At the moment both engines are stripped down to the crank.
I'm b/w #4 and #5
I put two halves together. It cant be that hard or just get the 700 core and be done with it.
But what are we talking about 200 bucks more to get a 2 yr no fault but with untested company? or crappy SBT for another $100 and most expensive choice.
I tried to make it easy reading and I apologize for such a long post. But I know many have been through this and would like to have opinions.
I'm sure with all the rebuild question threads, this one might be a good one to have answers to questions in.
Thanks
