Is there a way to "decode" the EIN? (Kinda like determining the year, etc by the HIN.)

The reason I ask, I bought a 98 GTS and was wondering if it has the orig engine or not. The exterior was a little rough, but the engine seemed very clean and well maintained. It starts quickly and runs like a top! It is a silver 717 and the only tool marks I can find are on the engine are the motor mounts. All clamps seem new. It does have the old grey fuel lines.

Thanks!

The EIN = Engine identification number, is on a plate on the magnito houseing. It also states the CC id, like 657,717,787, ect.
The HIN = Hull identification is on a plastic engraved plate on the rear of the pwc. The hin & barcode is on a paper/plastic wrap
tag in the front of the ski under the gas tank. After ZZN (the manufacturer) the next five digits are the serial number,
the next two are model code, the last two are the year made.

The VIN = vehicle Identification number and the HIN are same identifiers.
