Hey all, I have a 96' Sea-Doo XP 800, and I bought it non-running. I bought with a known electrical problem. My first thought was a stator which turned out to be junk anyways, but once changed, was not the problem. I'm now assuming that it's a CDI. I found a motor-less 96' Sea-Doo that is the exact same body. The guy is unsure of what motor it had, but it has all electricals. It has the same-looking electrical box, with the MPEM key. If it isnt a 800, then will the CDI still interchange. Even if maybe the timing is a little off, just trying to get it ready for memorial day weekend.

I'm used to sleds, and with my Ski-Doo the MPEM would allow the sled to start, but not go if the key was not fully attached. Would the MPEM cause it to turn over with no spark?

Thanks in advance

The 800 motor is it's own animal, and the MPEM is not interchangeable with any other engine. So... unless the 96 is an XP with an 800 engine... the electronics will do you no good.

If your MPEM is allowing you to put on the lanyard... and it's giving you 2 beeps, and then you push the starter button, and it cranks... I'd say your problem is the pick-up coil in the mag housing.

On the 800, the MPEM "Talks" to the CDI. If there is a problem with either... you will not get the 2 beeps, and it will not let you crank the engine.

I had thats exact same problem i chased it down it was a ground i recommend you check all your connections the next thing i would say is check your pickup coil blow it out with air. Also put the ski in self diagnosis mode by hitting the start botton 5 times with the lanyard off you should get beeps once thats done put the lanyard on and hit the start botton if you get beeps you may have an issue if no beeps then the ski is communicating with the mpem and the cdi and lets you know it is working

The stator was just replaced as well as the pickup. It beeps twice when the MPEM key is connected. Coil was tested and works. Any other ideas?

Yes, checked, rechecked, and checked again.

Beeps once after you hit the start button 5 times without the MPEM cord connected.

Beeps twice once key is connected. And we have changed the stator and pick up.

Anyone have a CDI they want to sell cheap? :ack:
