I am getting ready to pull the motor out of my nonrunning 96 GTX. Can anyone tell me the easiest way to go about doing this? I pulled the one from my 96 spi years ago but that was a little different setup. I already have the head and head cover off but the cylinders are still on. I am planning on replacing the pistons, rings, and giving it a fresh bore. I am not sure that the motor has ever been gone through.

Out the top, where the seat goes? Is there another way, I have never really thought about it but I took my 95 out the top after the plate at the bottom was removed, the 787 has the wide bar on the back but tilting it lets it fit out the top.

pull the pump and driveshaft out, remove the carbs, undo the exhaust pipe from manifold, loosen the hoseclamp at the muffler, so the pipe can turn up and outta the way,(use bungee cord too, it helps) then lift ur out....done a few, did one other day...:ack:

Do you have to pull the pump and driveshaft out? When I did my spi I just moved the motor forward enough to clear the driveshaft. Thanks for the info.

On the sbt website they have exact instructions on how to take it out and also in the shop manual. I took apart my 96 GTX about 3 years ago and rebuilt it. Just label everything and dont hurry or else putting everything back in parts can get mixed up
