Drive line seals and bearings

Has anyone ever tried to get the lip seals and barrings for the carrier seal on the drive shaft from a industrial bearing and seal store? The guy from seadoosource.com says he uses a Torrington Bearings on his page. Torrington is a name brand of bearing. I beat it would be alot cheaper through a industrial bearing and seal store like Allied Bearing. If someone has done this can you post the name brands and part numbers of the seals and bearings.Not the seadoo part numbers they are useless at these stores.

i rebuilt my carrier for $13.00

I found the part number for the Torrington bearing it's J-1416. I also found a Timken seal part # 471267 that works but its carbon steal so it may not last as long as the stainless ones . I have the new bearing and seals on the boat now and are working fine.

You shouldn't use a carbon steel bearing. It will get wet, and fail in short order. when that happens, the bearing pack will spin, and pop the hose off... and then you will have a 2" hole on the back of your hull. (water will come in quickly)

The bearing shoundn't be the problem it shouldn't get wet if the seals or working properly. If water where to get to the bearing the greese will protect it from corrosion. i think the torrington bearing is s.s. but not sure. I will get a PMI done on it at work.

I found 8660 from NAPA works fine, be sure to press square and slow, in the tube you want -- water <-- seal <-- grease - seal --> when you add grease it will come into the engine bay, if you see milky coloring you need service quickly.
