Does a 720 from a 2004 GTI fit in a 1996 GTI?

I have a question does a 720 engine from a 2004 hit in my 1996 GTI? If so will it be a direct bolt in or will I have to do any mods to make it work? Also will my mpem work on the 2004 motor? Will all the plumbing work?

I am sure the motor has the same configuration. The mounting plate may be different. The ignition and plumbing should match up as well.
