Do you need gaskets to check carb filter?

Do you need to replace the gaskets to just check/clean the internal carb filter, or can you just reuse the original ones?

Do you have to remove the carbs from motor to do this or can check/clean the carb filters still on the ski? Im assuming there is a gasket between the carbs/intake manifold and I want to be able to get it out this weekend and I dont have a gasket

ooohh... i thought that was the gasket you were talkin about... im doin mine this weekend tooo.... from reading other threads i think you gotta pop them lil batches (carbs) off your ride to clean out the filter and if you got them off should go ahead and clean em ALL the way out.... should be able to reuse everything as long as it is in good shape...

So in summary...
The carbs come off
I can reuse all the internal carb gaskets that I encounter when cleaning then filter
I can reuse the carb/intake manifold gasket as well

ChrisV, only problem removing your carbs, is that you need to remove the intake manifold, which is held on by 4-13mm bolts, the front bottom one is a bi***. Make surethe rotory valve dont stick to the manifold when removing, or you'll need to re-time it.

Seadooya had some great advice on the rotary valve. Remove the intake manifold very slowly.. When you start to pull it back, take A light and look doWn into the area between the block and the manifold.. you will see a plate that is on a gear. Take a small screw diver and push it toward the block so it stays on.. If it comes off you will need a timing degree wheel to reset the timing. It's no difficult to do, but don't make more work then needed..

All in all going slowly with any of this is the key to a low cost repair, a lot of the carb rubber parts can be washed and dried prior to re-assembly be sure to go slow with the diaphrams, they are fragile and costly.

Why would I have to remove the intake manifold to take the carbs off? Don the carbs just bolt to the intake manifold using a gasket between the carbs/intake manifold.

Well, most times if the carb filter is dirty then so are the carbs, you can pull the bowls and fuel pump off and I bet you find that the carb needs cleaned as well, in terms of the gaskets unless you have done a rebuild not long ago or the gaskets are not that old then you should go ahead and order a carb gasket kit first as most times the paper gaskets and diaphams will need to be replaced, if they are dry and brittle then you need to replace them. I always soak the carbs in a 5 gallon solution of cleaner to remove all gunk, but you must remove all gaskets before you do that, as well to save yourself a headache you can buy an inline filter and install it right before the carb this will keep the carb(s) clean.
