Do I need an Impeller

Hello All

Had a little incident, started wit a flip over, then a friendly neighbor helped ou by firing ski up in a foot of water and gassing it, lots of gravel ingested by the sounds of it. I know the wear ring is trashed but how does the impeller look? Any other parts I may need for my project? Thanks in advance.
Ski is an 04 GTX supercharged

Both look pretty rough but the impeller can be fixed. Wear ring needs to be replaced.

Kind of a judgment call IMO on the impeller, an impeller rework isn't terribly expensive but just cleaning up the leading edges with a dremel and a large stone will help. Depends on if you must have full potential back, then a professional rework will get you closer. Did it lose thrust, looks like it may have lost a good amount based on the wear ring. How about the stator vanes aft of the impeller, any damage there?

How about the gel coat in the tunnel, is it just scratched or chipped? If chipped, I would try to do something to seal it and stabilize exposed fibers, 'cause that's the way I am.

Aft side looks good, sorry no pics. No noticeable pieces out of the gel coat either. It's just sounds clunky now and cavitates at WOT but will still get to 50-55 mph. Was at 62 before and of course sounded smooth. I'm not too concerned with every bit of speed, mostly a run around machine but I was looking at the solas impellers, worth it?

Clunky, huh? Not sure what to think of that except ask if there are still rocks inside the pump housing.

solas impellers are good, many like the swirl. It's more important to get one that performs as well or better and often that doesn't necessarily work out unless he who picks it has done well before. Hard to beat an OEM impeller, but it can and does happen and of course all aftermarket impeller posts are the failed attempts.

I think if it were mine though, I'd just clean up the leading edges, throw a new wear ring in there, get back out on the water and see how it does. If it disappoints, then winter downtime is a great opportunity for blueprinting jet pumps.

Hmmm, rocks still in housing, could be on to something. Thanks for the replies, I will let you know how I make out.

I'd pull the pump out to inspect it proper... and have a new wear ring on hand at the same time, go ahead and put the new ring in. Once it's back together with the new wear ring go ahead and run it the rest of the season then decide if you want to pull the impeller and send it off for refurbishing (which could take a few weeks to get it back) or replace it with a good aftermarket impeller; Solas has recomendations on their website as to which of their impellers is found to work best on your particular SeaDoo, no guessing required.

The ring is gone...hard to tell how bad the prop is till you put it on a bench and start measuring. Nose cone looks to have been walked up the shaft as well.

I think the impeller is plenty good enough to get you through the season with no issue.

The ring does need replaced.

If you pull the pump to check for rocks then I would probably install a new ring and impeller and send your original out to be reworked and save it for the next time...

Thanks for the info guys. There was a rock an inch across trapped behind the impeller, thus the noise. Definitely some damage on impeller but I cleaned up for now and replaced wear ring. Such an easy job to do I didn't worry about the impeller for now, will replace this winter. And the freezer trick for removing the wear ring is priceless!! Left housing in for an hour and it fell right out.
