Went riding up the river last night and jumped a log that was hidden under the merky water..everything seemed fine so I kept on going, then I hit another log at a very slow speed..didnt think much of it, till I had almost no propulsion, and some nasty vibrations.
pulled to the bank to see if some wood got logged in my intake, and to my serprise, my grate had busted off and the larf metal end of it flipped up inside and wedged itself very tight. could not get it out. So I went back down river slow, and stopped every few miles to try and get it out. after about a hour and 5 tries it finally came out. I can see where the driveshaft wore part of it down, and where the prop was hitting it. Now it cavitates a little but no vibration. I think if I bent the driveshaft I would have some vibration. Im going to pull the pump off tonight and post up some pics

Well, that sux.

Yes... if you bent the driveshaft, you would feel the vibration. But, I would pull the pump, and check. Also, if you damaged the impeller.. I would file/grind the edges clean.

Im pretty sure I trashed the impellar. I got back to the ramp in the dark last night, so I didnt get a real good look at it. The piece that was jammed up in there was the size of my fist. You can see where the impellar was cutting the metal

Well I replaced the prop with a used one I had, then I installed a new wear ring...now it cavitates worse then before??? Is this because I used a aftermarket wear ring. The prop I put on had the same part number and was in really nice shape....no chips or nicks at all. I checked the usual, with the carbon seal, and thats all operating normally. BTW drivshaft had some rub marks on it but is streight. I had no vibration, but stabbing the throttle from a dead stop it cavitates pretty good..top end seems fine..averaged about 55 on the guage.

Let us know. I guess the grease is supposed to block any air leak there. I have cavitation and am unsure whether wear ring or air leak is the problem.

$40 shipped on the intake grate. Are you sure the carbone seal is good?

I bet since you ripped the intake grate off...the pump shoe glue got loose. If you have a loose pump shoe it will cavatate badly. Its a super crappy job so try laying a layer of RTV along all seams and let it dry good.

positive the carbon seal is good. I will check the boot. I may and try and cheat the boot up a little and see if it changes anything.

Nothing wrong with that. I switched to the old style bearing seals on my skis. As long as you grease them they last forever.
