What takes 4 minutes? .....Yesterday it took me longer than that just to loosen the grips, slide them back and remove the 4 screws that that the bar cover together on a GTX.

the gtx has the dess post on the handlebar,, i assumed (perhaps incorrectly) that the GTI has the Dess post on the dash... i could be wrong on that, never had a GTI, just going from memory, but if its on the handlebar yes, its NOT a 4 minute job I need to replace same (DESS post) on my 2003 GTX. What do I need to remove to access this DESS post? Any special tools required? Tips, tricks? Thanks in advance!
No special tools required, just remove the handlebar grips, slide the throttle and vts/start, remove the handlebar cover (6 screws), the DESS post is in the lower cover.

Thanks Lou! So I just need to slide the throttle and vts/start out to the sides just enough to clear the cover?

well at least this time I don't have to eat crow, but i do put my foot in mouth about once a week anyway.
After getting a long beep only (not the two quick beeps I expected), research indicated it was most likely a bad DESS post (since they are known to wear out frequently). Well I just replaced the DESS post and I'm still getting one long beep (of rejection). Any ideas on the next step to take? FYI, I checked all the fuses and they appear to be OK.
(I have too identical lanyard keys that worked fine up until last week (when the long beep started). These identical keys operate 2 identical seadoos interchangibly - either key will start them both, that is, up until last week. Thanks in advance for the help...hoping this is something I can fix myself without having to drag it to a dealer.

Tried 5 presses on the start button but no beeps. Noticed the Start button was resistant, like it was catching a little bit when pressing it, so I pressed it numerous times to loosen it up. Tried the 5 presses again but again no beeps. BUT when I put the lanyard back on I got 2 BEEPS, the gauges lit up and everything appeared to be working fine. Removed the lanyard and reattached it and now I am back to one beep. Sprayed some WD40 on the Start button to loosen it up and scavenge any moisture but this did not help...still only one beep...what a tease!
I think this signals that the post and lanyard are OK. What are your thoughts and suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Do you mind me asking what the solution for this was? I am having a similar problem with a ski I just got. Without the lanyard on, press the start button, gauges work for 33 seconds. With the lanyard in, press start button, one long beep. Goes into diagnostic mode with 5 start button presses, put lanyard on, no beeps whatsoever.
