Crankshaft Retaining shim

Man... I just finished re-assembling my engine after crankshaft replacement and top end rebuild. As I was cleaning up the work bench I found a ring about 3 inch in outer diameter, 2.5 inner diameter and quite thin. I decided to spend some time today going through the diagrams to see if I could figure out where it came from. I think I found where...

It seems that there is a "retaining shim" on the PTO side of the crank between the end seal and the PTO flywhee. Now, there is no mention of this ring in the service manual or any of the videos I have watched, but it is definetly shown in the parts diagram.

See item 14.

man, what a frustration. Now I have to decide if I can get it in withough un-assembling the top end. Or If I will have to break the thing right down and start again.

Any thoughts?

There is a slot on the PTO side of the crankcase where the "ring" goes. (In front of the seal on your crankshaft. Be sure to apply lithium grease on both seals before you install the crankshaft into the crankcase.

flip motor upside down, remove the bottom case, and pull up on crank, enough to install ring.
