So was out the other weekend before they put the docks in and when we came back to load up on the trailer we bumped a rock:( I ordered some new gelcoat and also color agent, Based on pictures and hoping some of you having experience actually doing this any recommendations? I know to sand it down a little and clean it up I have diff grit sand paper from 220-600 wet/dry and I know about mixing harder vs gelcoat and just add a little color ect, but an actual technique or tips and tricks would be helpful. I have done bondo on a car so I'm figuring its going to be similar but wanted to see if anyone else had suggestions gonna start working on tuesday pending its not raining.

Expect it to be similar to what you have experienced with bondo, will likely be thinner so let the consistency guide your thoughts on how much to mix and how much you can apply per coat, working upside down is the most difficult but it is going to be just about like what your expecting. Just feather edge it around the area and get after it. might take 3-4 rounds before it is build up thick enough that you can sand it back down to the correct plane and polish it up.

There are two other threads on this in the last month. One called Dock Damage from Bren989 which also has a link in it to a thread of mine called Gelcoat with a PreVal Sprayer.

Lots of good input from other experienced members.

Cool thanks!

Hey Nike. Of course, we've done a video on this ... https://youtu.be/h9nxIAJU1KQ . The only thing I suggest is careful not to put too much pigment in, as it'll make it a bit softer, and it'll take a lot longer to cure. Other than that, it's pretty straight forward. Good luck!

Oooooooofffff Course you did and thanks for the heads up on the pigment the stuff I have is black and it says 20 1 gel to pigment think that seems good or less then that? I feel like black a little will go a long way..
