Hello, at the end of last season my 97 gtx started having problems surgeing in the upper rpms. After researching on here I decided to rebuild the carbs and freshin up the fuel system. What I did to it was- Full rebuild on the carbs ( followed the how too on here, did the pop off tests ect.), changed out all the factory fuel line, replaced the the factory fuel filter with an inline small engine one, cleaned the fuel selector valve, put in new plugs, cleaned the fuel canister screen. Took the ski out today and it ran good for about 10min and started acting up. It would randomly surge, and would shut off at random times also. Sometimes it would be hard to start back up, others it would fire right back up. I'm kinda lost and this point, dont know really what I should look at next. Any help would be appreciated as the weather is getting nice and I wanna start riding again. One thing I forgot to mension is the ski will run great out of the water idles good and revs good. Thanks.

prolly need a NEW selector valve... i would start there... alot of times you can't get them as clean as they need to be... i have a 97 that i test rode in april bought them (a pair) then my pops took it out in march... it was doing the same thing... surging at high rpm's... if the new selector doesnt work i would re-check your carb rebuild... it is possible something got left behind!

Having similar problems with mine, like the pump isn't keeping up or is losing prime, like air is getting in the fuel system. Check your power valves, make sure they are not hanging up, check your charge/battery voltage with ski running.

yes...i've read on this "surging" it's been told if it's not your fuel system it may be your rectifier... i'm gonna get mine fired up soon and ill let you know if it is still doin it... was thinkin about just buying 2 new rectifiers anyways for when they do go out!!!!

i have also heard of people redoing their fuel system and tightening the clamps down way too tight, thus letting air in... if you used good, GOOD YEAR hose it should be kinda hard to do but always a thought!

Use the popoff tester for the whole fuel circuit and you may see the air leak as a fuel leak now, 5psi is the limit, if nothing then must be one of the carbs - check for paper white spark plugs.

I was thinking the same thing its like air is getting in the system. Something else I did do was I did the fuel gauge repair where you have to cut the side of the fuel canister open and resoldier a connect on the gauges circuit board. Do you think its possible that when I replaced the peice i cut and removed, its still not sealed correctly? Could this cause a problem? Also, when I pull the plugs they look fine.

hey neon if i were you i would do what cap,n scale is...and get a new o-ring...a factory one...if you notice most o-rings are round the factory one is actually square??
