compression test with broke starter?

Well, a spline tool and good impact has worked before. But that one was out of the machine.

I don't think so, you can turn the motor over by hand, but I don't think it would be fast enough to get an accurate reading.

Thanks,
I didn't think so with out the engine being out of the ski but just thought I would check.

Can you hit a starter (lightly with a big wrench) on a PWC just like a car to try and get it to kick over?

Yes, but it is difficult. It will be under the exhaust manifold. Alot of the time it is the starter solonoid or a bad ground. Check those first, then jump the starter solonoid. If you get a large spark and no movement, continue no further. The starter internals are shot and shorting out. If nothing happens/no spark, tap the side/back of the starter (don't beat the piss out of it) and try again. Worst case, couple bolts and out she comes.

If you replace the starter, I recommend getting and OEM rebuild kit and rebuilding your old one. The cheap chinese ones don't last and will crap out on you at the worst of times.

Rings leak, and air moves in a dynamic way. So... the static compression is dependent on the starter velocity.

So... No, you can't.
